Hi , Daft question I’m due to start letrozole soon and having radiotherapy, do you start the letrozole after having radiotherapy or before.
I started exemestane before radiotherapy. I queried this as I wanted a bit of a break after chemo and then surgery but oncologist said it would give me time to understand side effects before seeing them again after radiotherapy to be discharged. I ended up starting on them every second day for a month (without telling them!) to at least be able to adjust to them. That meant I started them properly - one a day - just after finishing rads.
I began taking letrozole two weeks after radiotherapy ended as I didn’t want any potential side effects affecting my radiotherapy treatment (had infection three weeks after surgery). I’m still on my first box (Manx), I’m also being a “rebel” and taking a pill every other day to ease me in but despite this I’m having numerous hot flushes every day/night and much interrupted sleep. I already have my second box (Accord) but will take this every day when I come to the end of the Manx.
Hi Sinfonia20, interesting replies, definitely not a silly question! I’m on Anastrozole (letrozole’s older sister, at least I think it’s an older drug but could be wrong!), same purpose. I started mine 6 weeks after lumpectomy, just because that’s when my oncology appointment was. I delayed it a day thinking I’d have one last drug free day! My radiotherapy started 4 weeks after that - delayed by Christmas and new year. Good luck with it all, love and hugs, HFxx
Hi, I started Letrozole 2 weeks ago and I haven't had radiotherapy yet. I have an appointment on the 30th to discuss so I'm sure it will be sometime in October. I thought that if I had any side effects I could discuss with the Oncologist at this appointment. I've also been referred for a bone scan.
So far no side effects but maybe they develop later on if they develop at all.
Best wishes x
