Suspicious lump

After waiting nearly 6 weeks for my USC appt, finally went today.  Had mammogram, ultrasound and core biopsy and the doctor the lump is suspicious of cancer. A big part of me suspected this but I was clinging to a little bit of hope that it could be benign breast changes.  Has anyone ever had a suspicious lump be benign? Or is a core biopsy only done if they are more or less sure it is C. Also they said they ultrasound under by arm and there was nothing suspicious there. Can they tell by ultrasound of lymph node involvement?  Wish I had thought of these questions whilst I was there but it was such a shock even though I was half expecting it x

I was told they can tell at the ultra sound if it needs further investigation so that's why they do a core biopsy.

I had ultra sound of breast and lymph nodes and they only did a lumpectomy as they had no reason to take the lymph nodes so I'm assuming they can

  • Thank you for replying.  I am thinking the doctor wouldn't have said anything about under arm if the couldn't be sure, well that is what I am hoping x

Without a doubt, I spoke to my BCN and said I'm assuming you haven't taken a node because you have no reason to and she agreed.

What you may get depending on results will be a lumpectomy, and the results need clear margins,

However its so complicated and seems no two are the same. Wait for the results and take it from there

    Take care

  • Hi I had an ultrasound scan on lymph nodes when I had core biopsy and was told lymph nodes looked fine, when I had lumpectomy I also had a sentinel node biopsy 4 taken out 2 were positive, my initial diagnosis was 9mm oestrogen positive HER2 negative grade 1. I think it gives them a rough idea but that’s why they do the sentinel node biopsy to be absolutely sure as microscopic cancer cells can only be seen under a microscope. I would wait and see what they say after the biopsy results come back, you’ll know more then about your treatment plan. Try and keep yourself busy and stay off google as a lot of information is out of date.

    Sending you hugs
