Has anyone continued their employers Bupa cover after retirement?

My wife (Her2 positive) in both breasts  has been receiving treatment via my employers health insurance scheme for the last 18 months. I understand the next phase of her treatment isn't available under the NHS.

As I approach retirement I know I can continue my membership once retired but I'm unable to get a quote until 60 days before my retirement date. The cost of of continuing my membership will obviously influence if it's affordable for a few years into my retirement. If it isn't affordable I will continue to work for as long as needed.

I just wondered if anyone else has been in a similar situation and can give a rough idea of costs to continue Bupa cover for a cancer patient.

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I can't answer your question but I noticed that you hadn't had any replies yet. If you type 'Bupa' into the search bar at the top of the screen you'll find there are quite a few previous posts which mention this company. You could have a read through them and see if any relate to your situation.

I know that you say that you are unable to get a quote until 60 days before your retirement but would they give you a rough idea to work on if you explained your situation?

It would be great if you could pop something about your wife's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Many thanks for the reply and advice, no Bupa wouldn't even give me a ballpark figure I'm afraid.
