Blurred vision

Hi, I have had 4 lots of EC and now on weekly Paclitaxel....

I have found my vision is really blurry some days and I am relying on my reading glasses all the time now. Mentioned it to my Oncologist but he didn't really seem interested ! Has anyone else experienced this ??

Should I be worried...or is it just Chemo side effect ??

  • Interestingly I’m the same and got same response. Just before I started my chemo had optician appointment and eyesight perfect for driving, without glasses. After first round of chemo, first day I drove really scary as I couldn’t read car numbers even when cars almost upon me. Haven’t driven since. Always feel I want to wipe away a mist from my eyes. Told oncology, disinterest!

  • Thanks LizJon, it's reassuring to know others have similar symptoms.....I think I might make an appointment with my optician to check all is ok. When I googled blurred vision and Chemo it says some chemo drugs cause this but it should resolve once chemo stops. Good luck with your treatment, hope all is going well.x

  • Hi I have the exact same issue and have just finished 4 x EC and now on weekly Paclitaxel and 3 weekly herceptin. I discussed this with my oncologist as I wear glasses for driving and this is fine but my prescription is very low, but I have now found I need reading glasses and the oncologist said that this is most likely related to muscle issues and will hopefully return to normal after my body adjusts post chemo, though of course nothing guaranteed.
    Hope this helps xx

Wishing you all the best in your journeys Four leaf clover

  • Thankyou Mylesy. Due to v high incidence of Covid where I live I’ve been terrified to visit optician! Had hoped that hospital may have given me an appt with the eye clinic - approx 30m along the same corridor as the oncology suite but as I said disinterested. Have finished 3 rounds of EC and start the dreaded Docetaxol on 17thTired face Good luck on your journey. xx

  • Thank you Rumple01 for your message....seems we are on the same treatment regime....like you I have a very weak prescription for reading glasses which I barely used. Now need them for all reading and texting.....the blurred vision is quite worrying, I am going to definitely get an appointment with my optician.... Good luck to you too, hope your treatment is going well.x

  • I would get that Optician appointment LizJon...the Opticians are pretty good at following Covid guidelines.... masks, hand sanitizer etc....you could always ring and explain that you are vulnerable...I'm sure they would be understanding. Good luck ! X

  • Hi my story on profile but finished chemo dec2019 . I was advised by team that my vision could alter so not to prescription change til after . To get test after perhaps two month  then followed by other test couple months later , For comparison optician happy and was better to wait for eyes to recover xx

  • Thank you Margaret ! Very helpful advice....I will wait to see the Optician... although it was more for them to look at the back of my eyes and check they were still healthy as opposed to changing prescription. Congratulations on completing your treatment and staying healthy ! Fantastic news and gives us all hope.xx

  • Hi to all who have responded. Think I’ll bite the bullet and make optician appt just to check that all ok with eyes other than the foggy vision. Big hindrance being unable to drive. Bestest wishes to everyone! Liz xxx

  • Have to say  some opticians  not up to speed I was in car when I answered but just to clarify two months after finishing eyes were tested and there was a change causing the blurred vision next text showed no change needed to prescription . Now two year on I'm about to book an appointment as I feel there is a change but thing it will just be an age thing ! Finished Herceptin Jan 2021  I'm Her 2positive so only on bi annual Zoledronic infusions now

I had EC x 6  and I also got dry eye which caused some difficulty but you can get drops from your chemo team .

Your team should have a wonderful drug cupboard for most SE including oral thrush

Wishing you well with your treatment
