I have heard that research has shown that using vitamin B12 either orally or by injection can help with joint pain and mood caused by aromatase inhibitors.
Does anyone have any further information? Does anyone take Vitamin B12 and if so has it had a positive impact.
Has anyone information that vitamin B12 is not compatible with aromatase inhibitors.
I find joint pain the most debilitating side effect.
Thanks
Hello,
I don't know if B12 helps with joint pain but it has certainly gradually ( it's almost 2 years since prescription began) helped me with nerve pain. After the Taxotere I was left with permanently destroyed nerves in feet and hands and a lower spine compression of the sciatic nerve. After a neuro surgeon sorted the compression, I was referred to a neurologist who quickly identified deficiences in B12 but also B1 and B6. I take a small phial of B12 every 10 days. I think it's 10mg but I can't look now as it will disrurb my OH......Slowly, the pain has diminished and I definitely have more energy. In fact these days I often realise it's day 9 because I am more tired than other days. Whether this would help your joints I can't say but a blood test wouldn't hurt anyway, would it?
Mine also found I needed vitamin D and zinc.
I hope you feel better soon. There's nothong more debilitating than continual pain . I don't take hormone inhibitors ( TNBC) but I have read lots of posts where people change brands or even the inhibitor to attempt to tweak reactions. Have you tried that too?
Take care. Love Karen
Sorry I can't help but am really interested in the answer as I have inflamed ligaments / more prone to injury since starting on an AI. The pain in my feet and stiffness in my hands wears off quite quickly after getting out of bed, or getting up from sitting too long,
However, I have plantar fasciitis, wrist tendonitis and a lower back that is now prone to spasm, none of which I had before. I've started taking glucosamine as I saw people recommending it on here but would be really interested to hear if anyone has luck with B12.
I'm pretty active so I'm not really allowing myself time to heal as I want to get on with life - it was on hold for long enough going through treatment. I'm not convinced resting everything would really help anyway as I think this is all a result of exemestane.
I've had 2 different brands so will be interesting to see if that makes a difference as problems have got worse since the second lot of exemestane, when I changed brands, though it could also just be cumulative.
My oncologist did say most issues resolve within about 6 months and I have to say the plantar fasciitis is a lot better so maybe the wrists will resolve too.
