Just another question regarding nails and EC chemo. Are you ok to have shellac fingers and toes while going through chemo or are you advised to have the shellac removed? Thanks

A definite and absolute NO NO. Keep nails varnished which helps protect from UV light and is easy to remove. Shellac is prone to lift the nail and leaves it open to infection

Thankyou. Would you think just a clear nail hardener? Or a colour? I’ve read posts that say to put dark colour polish on xx

Clear polish is fine. What you are doing is making a barrier between your nail and UV. Any colour is great, why not be outrageous???? Superdrug sell a  lovely cuticle cream that found kept my nails hydrated. Why not treat yourself to a manicure every few weeks, but make sure the beautician knows you are having chemo. I only lost 1 finger nail during chemo. Bizarrely I broke thd same nail 18 months ago (5 years after chemo) and it won't grow regardless of what I use

Thankyou well outrageous nails will be. Can you remember the name of the cuticle cream by any chance? Yes I use a really good beautician now so I’ll ask her every now and again. I need her to remove the shellac that’s on now. Thanks again xx

I don't remember the name,  but it did have vitamin E. Hope chemo isn't too horrible.

Thankyou I’ll have a look. I hope it isn’t too I’m dreading it and I haven’t even started yet. You take care and thanks again. Helen xxx

  • Use water based nail varnish (jennifer young- beauty despite cancer). Dark polish better as protects nails.  Body shop almond cuticle pen is lovely
