1 week post right breast mastectomy. Had app with surgeon who is happy with my wound and told me lymph nodes were clear and no sign of invasive cancer! Another area of dcis spotted, larger than seen at Xmas and in another area  so he’s adamant that mastectomy was way to go. Still can’t wear a bra for another 4 weeks….. slowly getting used to my flat side. No pain as such just bit stingy today. I can think about reconstruction further down the road but just thankful to be rid of the disease. So thankful for this forum getting me through the last 4 weeks. Wish I had joined it back at Xmas when first diagnosed. Wonderful group of ladies helping each other through this hard journey.  Sending love to you all. Thankyou and wishing everyone positive outcomes. Heart️I’m praying hard that it won’t come back a third time!

  • Hi it's lovely to hear how helpful you have found this forum and great news that you are cancer free now - long may it continue for you and me both.  Saying a prayer for us both x

  • Hi there…. I know I can’t really take it in! The last year has been a real rollercoaster. I’m nearly scared to be happy but  guessing that’s normal. I think we will always have that little doubt. Thankyou for replying and so delighted you are cancer free to! Lots of love Two hearts

  • Hi , a lot of people find this Article helpful.

Personally I find keeping busy, going for walks and not dwelling on it helpful.  I'm on tamoxifen (I was diagnosed in December 2020) so I feel confident that at least for the next five years all will be well.

After that if it comes back I figure I just go through the same process again and get it removed.  I will pay more attention to examining my breasts and as soon as I notice any sort of change I will get it looked at.

Somebody on my medical team told me that for the vast majority of us it never returns, it just seems like reoccurrence is more common because those are the stories you tend to hear about and remember.

Hope you find your own way of putting this all behind you x

  • Thankyou so much for the article. Such a good read and reassuring. It’s about regaining control of your life instead of your life being in the hands of others. One step at a time! Today I can shower for the first time in over a week! And look at my scar. Little bit daunting but another baby step. A trip to the hairdresser later will hopefully make me feel more like myself! Thankyou again. Xoxo
