Hi. I'm having a double reduction next month when they will also do a lumpectomy. I was planning to ((covid and appointments allowing) visit family in France to convalese.  No firm plans but hoping to go about 4 weeks after surgery. A friend said I wouldn't get any travel insurance if part way during treatment.  Does anyone have any experience in this area?

  • Daughter has used ‘Insurancewith’ for a good few years now, she travels for work as well as pleasure, not so much now, but did tour the world while going through treatment. They settled up swiftly with no quibble one year when she was forced to cancel a trip. (She’s a freelance musician who had a long history with a blood cancer)

well worth looking them up and phoning for help, especially in Covid times.

  • Hi

I hope you don't mind me butting in, as I'm not a member of this group, but I noticed that you are asking for travel insurance recommendations.

Unfortunately it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you have had a cancer diagnosis so could I suggest that you come and join us over in the travel insurance group where you'll find lots of recommendations for travel insurance.

To join just click on the link I've created and once you've done that look for the thread called 'Recommended Travel Insurance' as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are.

It is best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as sometimes they can refer to the underwriters to see if they would cover you when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Make sure you have all the information to hand about your husband's diagnosis and treatment before phoning. This is a list of things an insurer might want to know and some insurers might ask for a letter from your husband's doctor to prove that they have given him permission to travel.

  • Hi  can't comment on your specific circumstance, but just to say I had no problems getting travel insurance post treatment and it wasn't much more than before diagnosis either.

  • My travel insurance is through my nationwide bank account.   I flew to New York 5 days after being diagnosed and checked with insurers and they said I was still covered as I had to update them every October of any health issues an anything that arose after this was covered until following October.

Hi. Oddly enough I found that forum and joined. Thanks, that's really good advice.

Thanks. I'll be looking at convalescence after my op so is treated as mid treatment.  Fingers crossed.
