Hi

I am due to have a double preventative mastectomy (as I have the Braca 1 gene and had breast cancer twice) in 12 days time.

Did anyone use a mastectomy pillar and where did you get it from. Thinking of getting one.

Also any tips if you have been through would be most welcome,

thanks in advance

Rochelle

  • Hi Rochelle.  I had a mastectomy in June heart shaped pillows are really good   mine came from the hospital. Xxzz. Sending hugs.

  • I was given a small heart shaped cushion as a present from a friend. It came from an Etsy shop called TheSherbetPatch. I found it useful for putting under my arm.

  • I was lucky.  The hospital had them.

  • Hi

If you do a search on Facebook there is a page called Jen's friends- free mastectomy pillows. I think all you do is pay for the postage xx

  • Hi

I had my op 2 year ago you can read my story on my profile if you want .

The heart shape pillows are brilliant for use under arm and in car as passenger for seat belt .Mine came from Macmillan volunteers

Also I used a V pillow behind me when sitting . They're really good in bed for support as well you can buy them most places like Argos or Dunelm .

with regards the op I only had right side MX to be honest if I'd had the choice and time to think I believe I would have opted for double .

The op itself was far easier than I expected our imagination lines to build it up . Very little pain more discomfort than anything else . My tip would be take painkillers when offered better to prevent than try to cure . I was lucky enough to have been given a nerve blocker during op which kept me numb for a while .

when you are given the go ahead to do the exercises do them they really help with your movement . Beyond that remember it's major surgery and listen to your body rest when Needed but keep active in between rests ...gentle walking not the marathon .

ask any questions on here they'll be answered and leave Google alone . Have a browse around the threads and read people's profile you'll see lots of positive stories.

One step at a time and ...Breathe !

  • Hi Northener, I am due to see surgical team about right mastectomy. I've  heard some people have to have more than one surgery to make breasts look same. Did this happen to you please. I'm  about a 36E.  Also can I ask about bras, how do you know what bra to buy for after surgery? or am I worrying too much. Sorry to butt in on people's  chat about pillows but just worried.  Thank you.

  • There’s another Facebook page called Pillow Pals - Free Mastectomy Pillows. UK based, they only ask for postage, £4 for 1, £5.50 for 2. Run by volunteers. I am just about to order mine x
