What are people’s thoughts about this? Has it worked ?

  • Hi Magiemo welcome to the forum.

I honestly think that the jury is out on this one as for some  it works really well and for  others it doesn't and some give up half way through. Which leads me to understand that  it is really down to personal choice I think but hopefully others will be along soon to share their own thoughts re this as well for you. xxxx

    Thank you for your reply

  • Hi! You might find this helpful, it was a post from a couple of days ago where a similar question was asked. A fair bit of experience shared…

Hi ! I don’t come on here very often but just popped on to search something and saw your post.

I had TCHP chemo and cold capped using the Paxman system - I have had great success with it, my hair thinned - I had my last chemo in June and now all bits that had gone a bit thin are all filled in, no one could tell that I’d lost any only me.

If you can try it I definitely would!

  • Hi Magiemo

I used the cold cap for all 6 chemo. I had thick hair to start with and after the chemo it was really thin with some skin showing on top and at the back. I got it cut short, not shaved and I still felt the need to use one of the wee chemo caps you buy. I stopped covering up when went for surgery 3 weeks ago. I’m grey on top and brown at the back but my hair much thicker now. It also depends on how each nurse fits the cap. Needs to be really snug so don’t be scared to say. I took paracetamol half hour before cap on and just shut my eyes for 10/15 mns and thought nice things until discomfort passed and it really does get better. Good luck xx

    Hi Magiemo

I persevered with the cold cap (it was the first time the chemo unit I was on had used it) I think I lost about 75% of my hair in the end but I never needed to wear my wig. When my chemo stopped the new hair growth pushed out the remaining hair that I had managed to hang onto. Now 18 months later I have the most amazing crop of thick curly hair! I think for me the cold cap made me feel like I had some control over the situation ! Good luck xx
