Hello
just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation?
I am 35 and I have just been diagnosed with high grade DCIS.
So far I have had; ultrasound, biopsy, MRI and DBT.
I have 10 days to decide on a single mastectomy with reconstruction OR a lumpectomy taking 40% away and replaced with either side tissue from side of my back or if not enough to take from side then muscle from my back, this option would be two operations.
breast doc is positive about the lumpectomy option.
Is anyone going through anything similar?

Hi Rach
Getting a diagnosis is scary - I was diagnosed in April with high grade DCIS but I’m 60. The prognosis for DCIS is very good so hold that thought. I had a therapeutic mammoplasty in May & had the lower inner quadrant of my left breast removed & my nipple repositioned. A lumpectomy wasn’t really an option due to size & the results wouldn’t have been good. For me personally the surgeon said there was no benefit in having a mastectomy. The result for me is a smaller left breast - they didn’t need to reconstruct using any additional tissue fortunately - the extensive droopage helped!! I’m really happy with the results but have the option to have my right breast reduced next year. Not sure I’ll bother if things stay as they are. The operation wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be & I recovered quickly. I’ve just finished 5 days radiotherapy which was an accelerated course. That too was ok with very few side effects so far just a bit tired doing nothing! I wish you all the best. Trust your team they know what they’re doing. Don’t be frightened to ask lots of questions. Good luck.
Hi
DCIS grade 3 (2cm) I'm 54 and was found during a routine mamogram, I was told a mastectomy wasn't required and not to be considered by both BC nurse and surgeon. Had a lumpectomy and results showed clear margins but small so went back 3 day later for another scrape. The result are due Monday, BC nurse is confident that the margin will be clear again but until those results are read out I won't know
It a big decision and one only u can make, whatever you decide it was right at the time
