Hi i had radiotherapy Nov 2000 my breast looked normal up until April / May 2021 when the nipple became flat and a little inverted, then pops out occasionally and the nipple as shrunk and is sore, the areola is thicker, as anyone else had this? I had a mammogram end of May which was clear. x

  • Hi gina62 welcome to the forum. Im not sure what that could be but what I do know is that it is obviously worrying you, therefore I think that the best thing is for someone medical to have a look at this for you like your GP for example.

If this does nothing else it will hopefully be able to put your mind at rest. This could be from the Radiotherapy but best get it checked to be sure. xx

  • Hi , as  has said, definitely should get it checked out - I’d bypass the GP and phone the breast clinic as any changes should be seen and assessed. However it may be reassuring to know that my nipple is also now inverted and the areola is thicker and paler. After radiotherapy it went pretty much black, which I thought was permanent but then a huge scab fell off! Sorry if tmi! It was painful all during rads and has stayed super sensitive but not as painful - it’s now over 2 and a half years since rads finished. I recently self referred to the breast clinic because of some other issues. I had a mammogram and ultrasound as well as physical examination, and thankfully nothing was found. So do get on the phone to them to get it checked, always best to err on the side of caution. Good luck with it and let us know how you get on, love and hugs, HFxx

  • I agree with the others about getting checked. I had an area of DCIS  which didn't show on my mammograms or a follow up ultrasound but I could feel it for years. I was given the all clear at breast clinic. . It was discovered after surgery for my lump. Fingers crossed yours is just changes from radio,  but get it checked! X

  • I was diagnosed Jan 2020 with HERS2 Positive and i have received Chemo, surgery then went onto radiotherapy Nov 2020 i am on Herceptin for a year and i am on my 16th, i have 18 in total. Yes my mammogram was clear end of May and the Oncologist gave me a Breast examination end of July and said it isn't cancer. She said for me to report the late effects but not to worry. Yes my mum had DCIS. x
