Hi all,

I was here a year ago, I had a lump surgically removed which thankfully turned out to be benign (radial scar). I now have a few issues and I’m not sure what’s normal, what’s not, and what to think!

The side that had the lump has never been comfortable since the surgery, it’s ok, but tender - bordering on painful if hubby lies his arm across it in bed. I was putting a towel round my head in front of the mirror the other day, and there’s a noticeable dimple in the areola under the nipple when my arm is up - not when it’s down - the scar is top right hand corner so not particularly near the dimple. I don’t know if tenderness a year post surgery is normal? And is dimpling away from the surgical site to be expected?

My next issue is unevenness - I’m told they didn’t remove a lot of tissue and there’s very little dimpling around the scar. But this last few weeks, I’ve noticed a massive difference in size - like at least 2 cup sizes between the two. I can’t decide if my treated side has shrunk, or my other has grown. Tempted to say a bit of both if I’m honest. I have found a small bean sized lump in the untreated side and have an appointment on Monday on 2ww, is it possible that such a small lump could make such a big difference to the size?? And is it normal for so much shrinkage to occur 12 months post surgery?

Thank you in advance!

K x

  • Hiya, I can’t answer any of your questions but! You have absolutely done the right thing getting a quick appointment, the dimpling and size change really need checking out. Try not to jump ahead of yourself otherwise you’ll drive yourself mad, really hope it’s nothing sinister, let us know how you get on x

    Hi Anna,

Thank you for replying. My head is much more settled this year than last - I know what you mean about driving yourself mad - when I had the radial scar last year it seemed to take forever to get answers and being my first time in this position, my head was all over the place. I’m much more positive this year but there’s still that nagging doubt!
