Hi I am very anxious and upset had my first mammogram Sunday had a letter today called back for further tests all I’ve been told is both breasts are abnormal and they want to do further tests. Any advice or experience please help me I feel so frightened and alone thank you xx
Hi Laurajj welcome to the forum and you will be scared and thats perfectly normal.
I know it may not feel like it but hopefully if there is something there then it could be at an early stage. Or this could simply be the type of breast tissue that you have and is normal for you.
They will most likely want you to have another Mammogram and may also use the Ultrasound which they move over the area of the breast that problems are identified in and they can see clearer with the Ultrasound. If anything is in doubt they will want to take some biopsies to send for testing to check out exactly what is going on.
It will be an anxious time with all the waiting around but things do move quickly, though it may not feel like that for you. xxx
The Mammogram only shows up something that shouldn't be there which could include cysts and then when you get to the breast clinic they do a more detailed Mammogram and focus on the areas of concern identified. They wont know for certain, although sometimes they do and they will tell you that there and then and then they will take the biopsies for testing as these will identify whats going on. This could still turn out at this point to be nothing sinister.
It is a worrying time and its the uncertainty that's the worst but the trick is to keep super duper busy and then you hopefully dont have too much time to worry about this. But be prepared to feel a bit flat and maybe not sleeping well until you get to the clinic. Happy to chat anytime. xx
Hi Laurajj, so sorry to hear you are having this uncertain, worrying time. I will echo what Granny59 has already said as in it could certainly be something quite innocent, cysts or dense breast tissue, but to be on the safe side these things have to be thoroughly checked for your own benefit.
I know you will feel frightened, we’ve all experienced that ( and still do ), but you are not alone, this forum is here to offer you support and guidance.
Sending a virtual hug xx
Thank you so much is it common for them to
Find abnormal in both breasts?
I’m certainly no expert, but I’m sure it’s not unusual.
I can tell you are feeling extremely anxious, do you have family/friends around you that you can express your fears to? x
It’s just a horrible, horrible time for you and those close to you, not a lot anyone can say to ease your mind. Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long to have the further tests. x
