There seems to be quite a few people here under the BHOC in Bristol at the moment. We're really lucky with the facilities in our area, despite the Covid disruptions. If anyone wants to share local experiences that might help others, or just chat in general, shall we chat here? Smile

  • Thanks for setting up - really helpful! Good to share tips and experiences.
If it helps anyone I wasn’t told about the satellite units in little Stoke  or Hengrave at first  until a someone at work who has had breast cancer told me you could have your bloods, picc line dressings and chemo there. Bhoc were great when I then asked to move to the Concorde centre at Little Stoke to be nearer to home.  They moved as many appointments for me as they could. Its great at little stoke as it is smaller and so much easier to park etc. The staff all work across the units so all experienced. They all seem a great team of nursing staff.  I’ve heard that Hengrove is great for parking etc as well. Hope that helps for any people starting in their journey to know you do have some choices Two hearts

  • I go to Hengrove for my chemo, other than the first of each new drug which has to be at the BHOC in case you get a reaction, as there aren't the doctors at the satellite sites. Parking at Hengrove and Concorde is SO much easier than the city centre!

I have my line care and bloods done at Clevedon Community hospital which is closer to me.

I discovered that it's best to book the bloods 48 hours before the chemo, after getting a call at 10:30pm the night before the chemo to tell me my results were wonky. I got to bed at about 1:30am by the time they had found someone who could decide whether I should have it.
