Hi all,
Thank you for any answers in advance, I am new to scary cancer life, it's frightening, plus my husband isn't much support as he takes it worse than me (apparently doesn't know what to say)
I am going to my breast clinic tomorrow for results (I had ultrasound, mamogram and 3 biopsies taken about week and half ago), I know it's cancer as managed to get out of the nurse over the phone last friday
What are the questions not to forget to ask?
Do they usually give you time to choose treatment?
Thank you
Stay strong all
xx
Hi, they will talk it all through with you and give you time to ask any questions. They will give you a sheet with all the details of your cancer on (well they did me) which helped afterwards to refer to if you forget what they say.
they gave me time to think about any decisions and called me a few days later for my decision, but I didn’t feel rushed. I was waiting for one final test result but they talked me through both options for treatment depending on which result came back so I knew both outcomes.
have they said you can take someone with you to get results? Take someone if you can, they will remember things said that you might forget.
I will be thinking of you tomorrow xx
Chelle
Hi chelle,
Thank you for message,
Yes they did say I could take someone with me, but I am going on my own ( if I would take someone it would be close family member, none around), so i am planning to write notes and stay strong, I can beat it ( my grandma beat it in old age, and I am only 37), so I will beat it
Hoping I will have at least a day for decision to make as I know nothing about BC, I done few research, but it all depends on type/ stage, etc
Hi, sometimes hey let you record the consultation on your phone. You may have to ask, but it is another way of making sure that you remember all the information they tell you. This was a great help for me, as you don't hear everything and as much as you want to make notes, they don't make sense when you have left.
I would take a friend if you can, you don't have to be strong on your own. It just helps having someone to be there for you. I was not allowed to have any one come with me. But my sister sat in the car and waited for me, after my appointment. It was so nice just to have her there, even just to give me a hug.
Will be thinking of you
Good luck today, as others have said they will give you details written down for you to look at later. I wasn’t allowed anyone in with me but a breast care nurse was in with me and I was taken to a room with her afterwards and given as much time as I needed to go over what was said, make any notes, and be reminded of the details which was brilliant as it needed it in, I hope you have the same, all the best x
