Hi lovely ladies,

I have got my surgery result today after mastectomy. I had TNBC and already done chemo. They told me I had complete response which is good but they have seen some scar tissue in on of the 4 nodes they took out. It shows it has been positive and chemo has killed the cells. Now they gave given me 2 options: radiotherapy or surgery to remove more nodes. They say survaval is the same and I am not sure what to do. Has anyone been in this situation? Thanks,

  • Hi Raf44, I have read your message several times now and i have tried to put myself in your situation Its a tough one to answer, i think i would have a more in depth conversation with your oncologist before making any decisions. I had breast cancer many years ago and opted for a mastectomy with removal of effected nodes, i think in my personal view i would have them removed so they are gone for good. I have also had radiotherapy on several parts of my body and again in my view i think it just holds things at bay for a while. So although i have not been in your predicament as to choose which would be more beneficial i would ask more questions first not sure if this helps take care x

  • Hi Wino,

Thanks for your reply. I have booked a telephone appointment with my oncologist through private sector and hopefully I will be able to make a decision. There was no way to get an appointment through nhs soon enough. Take care xx

Hi Raf44 I was diagnosed with breast cancer last September and I had a lump and 2 specks so I got a mastectomy and they lifted 4 lymph nodes out and when they doing the mastectomy and I had 2 lymph nodes had cancer. So I fot a mastectomy on the 13th of October and they I got another operation to removed all the lymph nodes under my arm so they lift 10 lymph nodes and they were all clear so if I was u I would get them removed but its up to

  • Hi, Thanks for your reply

Did they give you a choice to remove rest of the nodes?

  • I’ve come back to your post a couple of times tonight, it’s been a long night. I can’t offer advice from experience which is why I’ve not responded but I’m really sorry for your dilemma. What I’m going to say is based on no knowledge of your situation nor have I been in it but I think (you never know until your faced with it) that my instinct would be the removal. I had breast conserving surgery and radiotherapy in 2013, but now find myself here again!

I’m on chemo now then mastectomy and axillary node clearance coming, I think I would want the additional nodes removed. I hope you’ve had some rest and all the best for today xx

  • Hi Anna,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for your current situation. I hope you recover and get well soon. It is such a difficult jurney and sometimes I think, It never ends! I am mainly worried by going through abother suegery, my radiotherapy to chest wall will be delayed to more than 2 months and I know it is very important to do this in time. I am going to ask this from my Oncologist and hopefully I will bw able to make a decision. Take care Xx

  • Good idea. Yes I understand that delay would weigh heavy on the mind for me too, I hope they can give you some clarity x
