Hi I’m perimenopausal …I have a misshapen left nipple ..not inverted , no scaly red skin , not cracked no itching no discharge. As if my nipple is growing ..my nipple feels the same ..no obvious lumps …have peri menopausal breast tenderness in both breasts …my breast has not changed shape …noticed it in the last few weeks …dr google with images have wrecked my head ..terrified I have pagets

  • hi

welcome to the group, sorry you've had to come and find us

I had pagets and I didn't even know it. Call your GP and get a referral to the local breast unit. Get the experts to check you over and do some scans and possibly a biopsy.

That is the only way you are going to know for sure what's causing this nipple issue.

I was perimenopausal when diagnosed, I'd have settled for a few hot flushes for sure. I'd had a clear mammogram in 2012 but when we checked back in 2015 it wasn't clear. I was then diagnosed with DCIS, which is ductal carcinoma in situ, or the earliest warning sign of breast cancer, which is treated with a lumpectomy or mastectomy. I was offered a 'nipple sparing' mastectomy which I declined and then in the post op pathology I found out that I had had pagets of the nipple.

Have you had a mammogram recently ?

    try not to panic

    hugs

    Carolyn

    1. Hi Karen, I agree with Carolyn, please go straight to your gp and get a referral, any breast change should be checked out, you should get seen in 2 weeks. Stop googling!! You’ll drive yourself mad, you’ve done exactly the right thing, you’ve noticed the change and you’re dealing with it rather than ignoring it. Please try your hardest not to jump ahead in your thoughts, deal with the realities as they come, I know that’s easier said than done but it’s so easy to let your mind run away with you x good luck xx

    Hi carolyn

thank you for your response ..I had a mammogram about two years ago for right breast cysts …it’s hard to know if it’s adenoma or pagets …my nipple is not inverted in fact it’s the opposite! I’m so sorry you’re going through this …how are you? Xx

I know google can be a nightmare..and I’m a nurse!!! My mum had breast cancer in her early fifties I don’t know what kind and she has now passed away …not from breast cancer I hasten to add …I will be calling GP tomorrow…I’ve been referred to the breast clinic (cysts)  before so know the process ..

  • We all do it!! The hours I’ve spent trawling and then thinking wth!! Being a nurse doesn’t make you immune does it? Heart️ always here with an ear xx

No it certainly doesn’t …Googling has made me believe I have every symptom of every breast cancer!!!! Hence my appearance on here …advice much needed xx

  • We’ve another thread on here about things people say, all well meaning of course, and one thing that’s come up here, and with friends I have, is that somehow being a nurse or doctor makes people think that this kind of stuff is easier if you’re a medical professional which of course is total nonsense, it’s just as terrifying xx

No still terrifying…we tend to specialise in certain areas so I’m no expert on breast cancer or cancers in general unfortunately xx
