Hi Everybody.
I had my Lumpectomey surgery 4 days ago and feel really well.
I've been told I must wear compression stockings for 6 weeks. Have any of you used one of these gadgets that help you put on socks without bending? There are so many on the market I don't have a clue what to try.
TIA
Christine
I was told to wear for a fortnight but it was mid July and hot and I took them off after 3 days. Saw my BC nurse that day and said I was too hot and she said providing I was mobile and not lying in bed or sitting around all day it was fine. Maybe speak to your BC nurse as 6 weeks seems excessive but you may have other health issues that made them give this advice
HI Diocese You need a length of ribbon that will go the length of your foot and up to your knee. Fold back the support socks to the heel. Tuck the end of the ribbon between two toes .Slide your foot into the sock so that your heel is in line with the sock heel, then ease the sock over your heel (this is usually the difficult part without the help of the ribbon) Then having made sure the heel of the sock is in the correct position, gently pull the sock up to just below your knee. Grasp the ribbon and remove it from the sock. Ta dah your sock is in place!! I usually put my foot up on a suitable height chair. A little talc helps with the slide up the foot and leg . Good luck ,it works well for me. Let us know how you get on. Sending hugs Kwissy xx
Was told to keep mine on till back to normal active me but to be honest after 3 days they had to go as made my legs so itchy. The trick at the hospital was to put the bag they came in over your foot to aid the socks going on then pull it out through the hole at the toes. They put mine on for me at the hospital so it was easier than bending. Do you have help? Have to say 6 weeks seem a long time. Perhaps worth checking. X
I was also told to wear until I was more mobile, managed 2 weeks and was praised for managing so long by BCN on my appointment! My hospital wants you in to see if you need padding etc with your most comfy bra, and to deal with any remaining drain.
Hugs xxx
