I found two breast lumps over a week ago. Today is my appointment day at the breast clinic. The GP said that she thinks it is cancer so I have been reading all your amazing posts which have all been so informative so I cannot thank you all enough.

Due to covid I have to go alone. I'm expecting to be there for four hours so will be taking a pack up and book with me.

Any advice or guidance will be very much appreciated please

  • Hi I was expecting to be in the assessment centre for 4 hours but was only there for 1 1/2 in the end, I had a 3D mammogram, breast scan and biopsy. I think the hardest part is going alone, I chatted with my partner until I walked through the door and as soon as I came out I phoned him, I suppose it made me feel like he was there with me. My appointment was a bit of a blur, I could remember bits of it but not all.

Good luck today and what ever they find we are all here to help.

    Big hugs

Thank you so much for replying. My husband will be waiting in the car outside bless him. What were your results please and did you find out on the day or have to wait?

I'm trying so hard not to think about it until I get an official diagnosis but my brain will not rest unfortunately.

  • Hi Cheroy….I was in clinic about 2hours, all tests done, think I was in a bit of a daze while there so wasn’t really aware of time passing, took a book with me but must have read the fist page over and over!!……My husband was waiting patiently in car, not very nice for him either.

Sending good wishes for today x

  • I had to go in breast clinic alone ore covid as they only allow patients in as the unit has patients sitting in small groups in waiting area with capes on top half ready for scans etc.  I was given appointment to come back the following week for results .  I could take someone in with me for results as they had results room !

Good luck and great you've been seen so promptly xx

  • I had no idea what they’d found on the day of the assessment as I was called back after a mammogram. The radiographer told me they’d found an area of concern in my right breast, never felt a lump. I then went in to have a biopsy and breast scan and the doctor was there, who I now know is the surgeon and she told me that she likes to be completely honest with her patients and that when I leave I’ll know as much as she knows, she told me they’d found a 2-8mm area that she was pretty certain was cancer (my brain went into standby at that point) and everything else was a bit of a blur, they gave me a scan and one biopsy, the radiographer measured it and told me they were 99% positive it was cancer due to the fact it was pulling the area around it. I had an appointment for exactly a week later, I didn’t take anyone with me because I didn’t know I could, so make sure you ask if you can bring your Husband because I just thought due to Covid I couldn’t and she actually asked if I was alone.

Had my results the following week 23rd July 2021, grade 1, ductal carcinoma oestrogen positive, had my HER2 results 2 weeks after that and they were negative, had surgery last Friday lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy and have radiotherapy in about 8 weeks I think and then tamoxifen for 5 years as still haven’t gone through menopause, I’m 54.

Its only natural to think about it and worry about it, it’s very very scary.

    Sending hugs and positive thoughts

    Diane xx

Ohh Diane I am so sorry to read your story it must be so stressful. I have been going through the menopause for several years and it's not so bad z

  • I had no lump just recalled from first mammogram.  I was told at recall 99% certain it was benign calcification.  One area was benign second Dcis.  6 years ago now but I knew at time radiographer doing biopsied disagreed with doctor by her attitude to me  so prepared for results .

Hi Grogg I can imagine it's awful waiting a week for the results. Did you get any hints about diagnosis and have you been back yet?

Thank you for your reply x

  • It was 2015 so I've long finished treatment. X
