Since I started chemo I feel like I've ballooned, possibly the steroids, but I'm really struggling to manage my weight and feeling crap about myself. The tiredness and muscle aches aren't helping much either. Has anyone else struggled?  Any advice please?  Xx

Hi, I'm in the same boat. Have ballooned too! It's hard to burn the calories when we are tired and have no energy. We need the energy just to cope so I wouldn't worry to much. We can do something about it after our treatment. I so understanding how you feel. Hope this helps. Take care X Habba

  • HappyAW, I think this is completely normal hun. I put on a stone in weight during my chemo and struggling to shift it. I thought I would loose weight during chemo but was completely wrong. It was a combination of what Hbp said with steroids and only being able to eat what you feel like you can stand (I normally eat lots of veg but could not stomach it during chemo). Sometimes I would eat as it made my stomach feel physically better but then couldn’t stand up for even one minute so eating many more calories than normal and not being able to do the exercise I would usually do as wasn’t well enough all contributed. I am trying to slowly build my fitness back up but it feels like a long road. I had my last chemo at the start of March and really struggling to “look like me” again. I tried on lots of summery outfits and could of just cried as I looked so out of shape. I don’t fit into any of my clothes anymore. I am hoping that a slow recovery may help me to get somewhere back to “me” again. I feel like saying to strangers, “this isn’t me, I haven’t just let myself get like this for no reason, I’ve been so ill” but would probably get some funny looks!!

I know exactly how you feel. Just keep yourself well and you can focus back on things like that when you are physically and mentally up to it.
