This time last week I was on the operating table having a mastectomy and diep flap reconstruction- to say I was anxious was an understatement. But … one week on I’m feeling fantastic!!
No terrible pain after the op so I didn’t use the morphine but they used a new pain bomb which is inserted into the tummy and pain relief is infused over 48 hours - brilliant invention. I was home after three days ( it would have been 2 days if the pharmacy was open on a Sunday ) my new boob is amazing and I look as I did before in clothes - no one would look and think I’d had a new boob made and fitted !!!!!
I know not everyone has had the same experience as me but I felt I had to write and say it certainly was not as bad as I thought it would be and for anyone else going to have this operation please don’t fear it - be positive!!
That’s wonderful Welshtotty, so pleased for you, and well done! Very encouraging for those anticipating surgery x
Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
Hi Welshtotty, glad your operation went well and you’re feeling great, which hospital were you in, I had mine yesterday inThe Royal Glammorgan I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy, just feel so tired. I read your post yesterday just before going to theatre so was very encouraging x
Hi Di
glad my post helped you relax before surgery I had mine in Morriston in the plastic surgery department I’m waiting for sentinel node results too - but hopefully results will be fine - face that as and when. Are you the lady I met from Gabalfa ???
Hope your recovery goes well x
Hi irishgirl
im glad my post helps you - the unknown is worse than the surgery and I can honestly say I feel fine - sore yes but no pain - painkillers down to three times a day and I hope to be off them completely next week - all the best for your surgery - if you ever need a chat to calm your nerves etc don’t hesitate to contact me
Good luck and stay positive x
My results should be back in 4 weeks the surgeon said, so hopefully will be fine as you said. No not the lady from Gabalfa, I’m from Treharris. When I read your post yesterday it made me smile and then they came and called me to walk down to theatre so I was feeling positive walking down. Only taking paracetamol, no dressing, no drains, just dissolving stitches and glue, was quite surprised there was no dressing and how well I can move my arm, just hope it continues. X
Di54 well done - I hope you continue to heal well / and I was able to reassure you about the operation being scared is no joke so if I can bring some comfort in these scary days I am delighted- keep well and positive
