Hi had left mastectomy on 1st June . I still have seroma fluid. How long does it take for the fluid to be reabsorbed by the body.

Also I am starting radiotherapy 19th July. Any advice on skincare of the area being treated an what side effects to expect.

Thanks

  • Hio Oregano welcome to the forum and sorry that you have not had  a reply as yet. It can  take a while for the seroma to clear and may need drained if it is problematic so dont just put up with it if it is bothersome, ask them to have a look and it may need drained.

In respect of the Radiotherapy the unit that you have the treatment at will advise you about creams etc and when and how to apply and when not to use this, E.g before treatment. The main side effects to look out for are redness in the skin around the breast area  as this can often break down but can also be treated so do let them know if this happens as it may not.

The other thing that can often happen is tiredness and this can kick in anytime and can be very overwhelming so rest up and listen to your body. Drink plenty water before and after treatment  as this keeps your skin hydrated as well. Best wishes for the rest of the treatment and hope it all goes well for you. xxxxx

  • Hi, I had a left mastectomy on 17th June.  I had the drain out early due to a complication with the antibiotics they had me on, they were worried then the implant would become infected so removed the drain.  Since then I have had fluid in breast and under arm, I am being reviewed on Wed so may be able to tell you more then. I was told they would wait a few weeks to see if it naturally settles but equally they would remove if needed.  I hope you can get some answers xx
