I finished treatment for HER2+ BC, chemo then mx and full ANC in Jan 2018. I got back to normal pretty quickly. Life just came back. Now I am not feeling well. I have pain in my back, bad indigestion, loss of appetite and resulting weigh loss. Now i’m writing this down it sounds awful! I went to docs a cpl of months ago, but he dismissed it. Went today and doc openly told me he is worried. He is calling my onc tomorrow for urgent lumbar mri etc. I can’t tell hubby. I can’t tell anyone. I am so worried, so lost. I think i just needed to get this out, as I can’t talk to anyone without worrying them, which isn’t fair until i know.

Why can't you tell your hubby?

  • He didn’t cope well and i ended up worrying about him in addition to what was happening to me. The same with my family. If it turns out to be bad news, they’ll have to know, but it seems unnecessary to worry them now.

Do you have a close friend you can share this with?  Seems to me that you're trying to protect your loved ones at a cost to yourself.  I know its such a tricky situation, but seems like you could really do with some support xx

  • How about chatting to the good folks on the Macmillan phone or chat line, that might help.  Or continuing to chat on here if that also works for you xx

  • I might try the chat line, but its good to at least type it! The doc was very frank and asked if i was thinking the same as him. He wanted me to say it, so i did and he agreed and said he was worried thats what it was. He told me to stay calm and just wait for onc to get in touch. I wasn’t too bad until he said that! Im ok, just a bit shell shocked as id convinced myself it was nothing!

  • Sorry, not sure what those up n down arriws are for! I was trying to look for Like or a thumbs up! Is there not a like or thanks button?

  • No clue what the arrows are for :).  Whilst it's really hard, try not to worry until you have something to worry about and do what you can to ge the MRI appointment quickly……sending positive thoughts

  • The arrows are Macmillan's very strange like button! We have been promised a change as it used to be conventionally 'like' and we asked for something where we could show support and empathy at times in addition to just ' like' which wasn't always appropriate.

If you want a good thread to express your feelings do try Awake. There's usually someone around to listen and although at times we may appear frivolous and have a laugh or just chat about day to day trivia, some of the posters have serious health issues themselves and everyone has experience of the treatments. It is a good thread to offer you support.

I was sorry to read the very worrying situation you have found yourself in. Hopefully the MRI will show quickly what is going on. Cancer is not the only inevitability.  In my own situation I needed two operations on my spine which the surgeon felt chemo had been responsible for. Compression of the sciatic nerve caused intense pain in my leg and abdomen. Permanent  nerve damage was caused by the Taxotere . Although I take a cocktail of meds daily, it wasn't cancer.

I hope things move quickly for you. There is no doubt the waiting is the worst.

    Take care. Love Karen
