Ongoing left breast tenderness and growing lump?

Hi all,

I had been seeing an oncologist for the last 12 months for a growing lump on my left breast which was biopsied (core biopsy) and returned as normal. The lump was not visible through ultrasound and a mammogram was not offered (due to my age - 30). Prior to biopsy the consultant had said that although the lump has grown and I am still experiencing intermittent aches and pain in the same breast, that if the biopsy is negative I would be discharged, which has been the case. However the lump is still present, the tenderness is on going and quite uncomfortable to the extend it’s effecting my sleep some night. Anyway, my question is has anyone experienced this? Should I challenge the negative result?

I, myself, am an oncology/haematology nurse and that has helped greatly in guiding me in terms of the diagnostic process, what to expect/do etc at the beginning, however now that it is negative yet I am still experiencing an ‘unexplained’ lump and tender breast to which I don’t know where to go for answers.

thanks

  • I would be inclined to seek a second opinion and see a different Consultant. Do you think though it could possibly be a fibroadenoma ?  To find that out you could ask for a mammogram. Find out about fibroadenoma (breastcancernow.org)

  • Hello ,

I'm sorry you find yourself here..... you coming here half says that you aren't content or satisfied with the results you have been given....

plus you are a nurse, so can understand how patients need extra reassure or to be checked over again....

I think this is what you need.  With you being a nurse, this might possibly make it easier to ask for the extra reassurance - have they told you 'what it is', plus if it is causing aches and pains is there an option to have it removed to ease this and of course maybe give you piece of mind too?

We can have all types of lumps and bumps - I think you need reassurance and would definitely make more enquiries - you need to have peace of mind to move forward and whilst this is niggling at you, you aren't going to have this - I feel you will always be questioning it.

Phone and speak to the Breast Care Nurse where you had biopsy treatment and explain all and even tell them you want a second opinion.

Sorry I can't help more than this xxx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
