I am due for surgery  at the end of July. I have been advised  to buy a front fastening  wide strapped bra.

I have spent hours on the Internet  -bought and sent back many bras. They just don't make them to fit my size  !

Normally I would  wear a 34JJ  small backpack HUGE  front! Nothing  fits  .

Any advice...... Please!

  • Personally I think it is probably best to wait until after the surgery, buying bras before will work out expensive as they may not fit afterwards, you will be given a bra when you go into hospital by the breast care team they will also give you a softie prosthesis based on your current size, you will probably find that you go without at home after surgery, I did, well at least for the first few weeks ! You will then get an appointment with a rep from a bra company via your breast care team who will fit and measure bra and prosthesis with you and give you a money off voucher to buy from their website. Hope this helps

It would have been helpful to have been told that by the team before now!!

I am 7 weeks post op and have been living in my M&S post surgery bras. I would recommend. Surgeon advices to go a size larger sound the rib cage and I’d say she was spot on as usual size would have added too much pressure. Good luck! Hope it all goes well xxx

  • That's OK,glad to be of help, not sure obviously what area of the country you are in, I guess nhs trusts are different in how they do things in different parts of the country, I had my surgery last August in Worcestershire, everything was explained to me after it was decided I needed a mastectomy for recurrence and a new area of cancer found during the investigations on the right side ( I had just had small area and 1 lymphnode removed ) both surgeries done at same time, they told me not to worry about bringing a bra in to hospital to wear afterwards, as i would have dressings and drains etc I just wore a baggy top for the next couple of weeks lol! After all dressings etc were removed I wore the soft bra they gave me pre op which was amoena front fastener, I did have to buy a new one in the same style as it was the wrong cup size unfortunately the nurse wasn't able to fit it cos it was in the middle of the pandemic she wasn't allowed to physically help me to fit it due to covid regs at the time, I just told her my cup size pre surgery and it wasn't until I tried it on a few weeks later I realised she had picked up the wrong size and gave me an A/B instead of a C/D, I didn't feel I could ask for a free replacement !! So I bought the same type in the right cup size from amoena UK website
