H, I am year 3 into my Tamoxifen and my night time sweats are getting worse, even in the day now. It maybe that I am going through the menopause as well, but as I cannot take HRT, does anyone have any alternatives? Many thanks in advance.

  • I'm not taking tamoxifen but I did go into a sudden medical menopause with the zoladex injections in October This was also during chemo, so night sweats and hot flushes were pretty intense for a while.

They have significantly calmed down now, I assume partly because I finished chemo in January but also because I am several months post-menopause now.

However, there are definitely things that have helped! I take a sage supplement, which was later also recommended to me by my BCN and I am hormone positive. I also have the usual things to ease everything - I have a desk fan, I dress in layers, I am very active (exercise is good for all things menopause),. For night sweats, I have a chillax pillow and I have just recently added a fan, which is brilliant for calming them down quickly so that I can go back to sleep before I've completely woken up!

Any stressors make them worse including stress, alcohol, radiotherapy, chemo. I eat pretty healthily but I have read that cutting out caffeine  and processed foods help, but I don't have these in my diet anyway. I also drink dandelion tea and nettle tea which is supposed to be good for them too.

They are about the only symptom of menopause I really have/notice but for me, they have calmed significantly since first starting and I have found a lot of things to cope with them.

Mine have gone from intense flushes every 20 mins 24/7 to a few during the day and night sweats every 2 hours. Mine are no longer that intense either. But not sure if that is because I am now post-menopausal with the zoladex injections so my body is getting used to have no oestrogen at all.
