But will my doctor give me another prescription if I bin them I will ri g the chemist see what they say. I don’t want to try another brand. The side effects are bad enough
You could call thr surgery and ask. I collect my prescription then go to Boots, who usually have Accord, but I all when I hand in the prescription. If it isn't then they get it for me. When I tried exemestane I asked for Aromasin. The only one you breed thr doctor to agree to and write on the form is Femara, and only some will do that as it's about £94 as opposed to £3!
Each individual can react very differently to the various brands. Hence, if you're having problems with one brand, try an alternative. As Londonmumof2 says, Femera is the oriinal 'trade name' for Letrozole so very expensive (as Panadol is to Paracetamol)
Some of the side effects are due to, or made worse, by the different fillers each manufactures use. Every manufacturer seems to use different fillers so, if you're not getting on with one brand, it's definitely worth trying alternative brands.
Failing that, maybe your cancer team would change your prescription to another hormone-blocker but, essentially, they all lower oestrogen, which can cause the side effects.
As for your GP giving you another prescription, I'm not sure if you mean a different hormone-blocker or if you mean GP will write another, as you don't have one, then s/he would want to know what happened to the ones you have had and why you need more.
As for experimenting with different brands, I feel it's better to get on separate script, as I've suggested in my last post, so you can get your required brand by 'shopping around', if necessary
Have spoken to my pharmacist at boots going to order some more letrozole and hopefully they will get my brand xx
Hi Figgy2019
Well done, Yes, I use Boots too and they do try to accommodate individual preferences. Boots have a note on their system to ask not to dispense until i go to collect, so I can be sure of the brand. I don't want to find I'm being issued random brands, of course. Currently, I'm taking 'Accord' so I'll see how that goes. I've only been on it for just over a month. I have noticed several things developing, ie joint pains and fatigue mainly, so I hope things don't get worse ;) If they do, then I'll try a different brand again ;)
As for aches and pains (I tend to get terrible side effects on joints, due to so many old injuries and existing arthritis) but I've very recently read that Loratadine (anti- allergic) is also an anti inflammatory med too and, I believe Cetirizine too, which can be got from OTC and very cheap if you don't by the propriety brands (Zyrtec, Clarinex, Allegra, Xyzal, Claritin) I have to say, I only know Loratadine and Cetirizine ;)
Otherwise, paracetamol and/with an anti inflammatory drug (if you can take the latter) should be enough to help
Good luck. The battle continues, eh? ;)
