Hi all, just an anxious daughter wanting to get clarity on the process after my mums surgery.
Mum was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in Feb, ER+ PR+ HER2- main tumor 33mm Grade 1, other smaller tumors grade 2 and also ER+ PR+ HER2-. Dr said it was treatable (thank god) and at early stage. Mum had mastectomy with axillary node clearance last month and got pathology report 2 weeks ago where they seemed overall pleased with everything: pleased with margins, out of 11 nodes removed only 1 had cancer, at an early stage, some little tumors were near chest wall which is why they're recommending rads (makes sense), and they sent off tissue for oncotype dx test to find out if chemo will be beneficial. They also mentioned that mum needed to go for ct and bone scan but i didn't take too much notice at the time as they didn't go into detail about why. Looked it up on google.. ooops.. and it freaked me out and made me think that they were convinced it spread elsewhere, especially after reading on pathology report that LVI was present, which also freaked me out after googling but also makes sense as to how it could have spread to the lymph node. Scans happened last week and I now know the 'staging scans' are standard procedure when you have a positive lymph node but it's so hard to not get worried and anxious. We've not heard anything since the scans happened and have first oncology app booked in for next Tuesday, so am hoping the fact they haven't called us to come in before that appointment etc that the scans are fine and normal? Although I keep doubting myself and worry about the appointment and results.
Just wanted to know if there are any other women out there who had the same process after surgery and before their oncology appointment?
Any response is appreciated :) thank you.
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that your mum has been diagnosed with breast cancer and it's natural to worry.
I can't help with your questions, as I had a different type of cancer, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. This is probably because this is such an active group that your post has slipped off the first page before the person with the right experience has seen it. Replying to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list.
While you're waiting for replies it would be great if you could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
