Hello all.  I’m new to this.  Diagnosed in January.  Luckily my cancer seems very treatable.  I am 8 out of 8 oestrogen receptive.

ive suffered badly for the past 7 years with a rare form of arthritis which was initially caused through Lymes disease.  I have had so much pain that at times I didn’t want to be alive anymore.  I was treated for the Lymes and the arthritis has over the last year become so much better.  It’s damage to my DNA that causes the ongoing flares.  Long Lymes a bit like long Covid.

I took hrt to help protect my bones and alendronic acid.  So now I’m very worried about how the oestrogen suppressing or blocking drugs are going to affect me.  Very afraid of going back to that place of despair from pain levels that made life an existence.

anyone else have pre existing inflammatory arthritis?  For those who don’t know it’s not the same as wear and tear arthritis.  It’s an autoimmune disease that can affect any age.

thank you and I really wish you all well.  I’m new to this and have learnt so much and it’s a really tough journey. Cherry blossom

  • Hi, I too had oestrogen 8/8, and went into Letrozole. Not pleasant because what it does is a bit like removing WD 40 from all your joints! But it’s so-able.

I already had osteoporosis (was 73 but going on 35 when diagnosed!) and was on Alendronic Acid weekly plus vit D3. Yes I have some random arthritis in joints, had asked for a rheumatoid factor blood test years back as the joints were small ones rather than hips. That was negative but at present it’s one wrist (had a very worn bone removed years ago) and fingers which give me troubles. As my bc was all removed in the mx and I’m supposedly low risk, I’ve recently been swapped to Tamoxifen as that protects bones rather than reducing some of the calcium in the same way that Letrozole does.

can I suggest you ask your team if any supplements they could approve which could help? Bone pain can be helped by one specific antihistamine (yes I know it sounds odd!) Clarityn (generic name is Loratidine) and joint pains generally by Glucosamine with Chondroitin, or even cod liver oil.

    keep posting,

    Hugs xxx
