Hi all,
After 4rounds of EC, had my 4th (of 12) taxols yesterday and woke up this morning feeling really good and so, so grateful for it!
Anyway, in my elevated mood, I've been wondering if it is a terrible idea to have a glass of wine tomorrow night... I haven't had so much as a sip since starting chemo, but we're doing a zoom call for my dad's 'retirement /finally getting the pension' celebration, and I'd love to be able to raise a glass with everyone. I'm not sure what the medical advice would be on this, but does anyobe still enjoy an occasional drink during chemo?
Also... Eyebrows. Mine are pretty much gone, so I've been putting them on in the mornings with an eyebrow gel. Has anyone done eyebrowing tattooing/ microblading or similar while on chemo or better to wait to after?
Thanks for any tips xx
Love your energy. I appear to be in the very early stages of the same regime as you. I bought tattoo eyebrows like the sort kids put on their arms. Come in a sheet of ten pairs and you can then use eye pencils to touch up. Very simple and easy to manage. I would have that wine with cheese biscuits and revel in it! As ii am only on day 3 post EC I see that in my mind but not going near my lips!
Hi-fantastic that you are feeling good . I was told I could have the odd glass of wine during treatment if I wanted . Sadly it tasted like vinegar! It’s only now - finished chemo in September 2020 that I can enjoy the taste but not the dry whites I used to like yet. Hope you can enjoy your dads celebration
Had I not gone off alcohol at the start of chemo I would have used it very frequently throughout all treatments! Along with losing a taste for pizza this was the worst side-effect from chemo.
Needless to say I've been making up for my loss ever since of course...
Have a glass with your Pa and see how you get on with it. Lucky man, retirement someway off but I think about it far too often!

I stayed off alcohol through chemo too. I thought my body was doing enough work with the chemo drugs without having to deal with alcohol. Having said that, there were a few key milestones where I had a glass of wine or a GnT. My advice would be to do it because part of getting through all of this is to have moments where you feel good. I didn’t drink much and there wasn’t any impact on side effects etc. And I felt good having a drink. I’ve finished my chemo now and I’ve been invited to a virtual gin night, which I’ve accepted as a treat. I shall have to make sure I’m careful as I’ve not had much to drink for ages. But we Must have some flurries of enjoyment.
in terms of eyebrows. I also use a gel with a brush like a mascara brush. Makes the eyebrows look realistic. My Mum had the eyebrow tattoos and they looked fantastic. She looked like a filmstar every day. But I would suggest waiting until eyebrows are back so you know what it will look like.
good luck with the zoom call. Sounds like you deserve a good treat!!
BJM I was told by my oncologist and by the senior onco nurses right from the start that it was completely acceptable to have a glass of wine, g&t etc if feeling ok. I have certainly had the odd glass of wine over the course of chemo - always in the second half of the cycle when feeling much better - and it has helped me to get through. I was told that it might taste awful but fortunately my taste has not been affected in any way and the wine tasted pretty good. So if I were you I would enjoy a glass for your dad's celebration.
