Hi, I found out last night that I am covid positive. My second chemo is due next Thursday 21st, I'm guessing this will be cancelled. My question is has anyone else caught covid whilst on chemo and have come out of it okay?

I'm okay at the moment, just a cough so far. x

  • Hi MollyRiver

I just wanted to check up on you and see how you are doing today.  Your chemo will most definitely be cancelled as you will need to isolate now. Please contact your oncology team to make them aware that you have covid, as they may need to keep a closer eye on you.

    Take care

Thanks for your reply. I'm okay so far... I called the chemo line on Friday and  emailed my chemo nurse yesterday. She'll pick it up tomorrow I think.

Hi Molly so sorry to hear this.  My sister has breast cancer and was due to start her second treatment on 24th Dec but she also contracted Covid on 21 Dec  - she had no symptoms whatsoever but as she is still testing positive to covid ( she has weekly tests) the hosp wont continue her treatment - she had another test at the weekend and it came back positive but her covid cells are dead and she is NOT contagious the hosp have still said no treatment as being positive and having chemo could cause Sepsis.

my sister is beside herself as she feels that she may run out of time and every week feels like an age as we are all just praying for the negative result

i am sorry if this isn't what you wanted to read but i thought its best to be honest as she had no answers for anyone for weeks and it seemed nobody knew the answers

they say the virus can stay in your body for up to 90 days and you have to have a negative (or so we are told) until any further treatment can be continued

    Take Care Ruth xxx

    Hi Molly

I just wanted to update you that my sister went and had her second round of chemo yesterday, the doctor decided that as they are dead cells to go ahead - she was out in a side room on a ward so had no contract with anyone which she said she actually preferred as it less chance of any infections

so from testing positive to getting her second round was 5 weeks (it honestly felt like months) hopefully your may be shorter

if you have any questions that please ask and i can refer to my sister as she had no advise really as Covid is still fairly new and they are still finding out about it

    Take care

    xxx

    Hi,

Thank you for letting me know. Good to know that she's not had severe covid symptoms. I've had a few symptoms, cough, runny nose and today lost of taste.  My hospital want me to go ahead with chemo next Thursday, they've said I do not need a negative covid test as I'll not be infectious from after 10 days. I'm slightly worried about going ahead with chemo when I've a chesty cough. But I suppose they know what they are doing. I wish your sister all the best with her treatment.  xx

Hiya, that's good that that are continuing with your treatment - hopefully you are reading this feeling better after Covid symptoms

Can i ask what breast cancer you have as maybe different cancers different treating of Chemo with Covid.  My sister had her second lot of chemo so all good - she hasnt really suffered from sickness just like random stabbing pain ( she said its like someone has a voodoo doll of her) but that seemed to of only lasted a few days, thankfully
