Hi everyone,
I’m asking for a bit of advice! I’m going to be starting Chemo soon and wondered if any one could advise me on wigs? I had long hair but when I found out I’d have to have Chemo my daughter cut it short to give me a chance to adjust. Family members have bought me a few turbans and I’ve been wearing them for an hour or so at a time to try and adjust. The department that provides wigs at my hospital is shut at the moment and I just wondered if any one could suggest a good place to get a nice wig at a reasonable price as I’m now on SSP so I’ve not got money to waste. I’m not even sure I want a wig but I’d like to have the choice. Thank you in advance for your help and hope your all staying strong as I’m trying to do! X

  • Hi I was issued with NHS voucher via onco then a wig person came to hospital to set up shop . This was before covid but wondered if you might still get a grant towards a wig mine was £200  The wig company was browns of Tavistock they are online . Might be worth asking the question .

I was same as you and cut my hair to pixie length not only did it help me adjust but I also kept hair a bit longer as it had less handling .

Also I liked it that much I've kept it short now it's grown back .

  • Thank you so much for the info, I will now look into that. I’m lucky my daughter is a hairdresser and I managed to get her to do it before the latest lockdown. X

    1. Yes I can definitely recommend amazon. I paid alot for a wig from the special shop near my hospital they were lovely but then lockdown last year closed them and I was desperate for my wig steaming ( it went fuzzy ) so I took the plunge and ordered a long brown wig off amazon it is absolutely beautiful and have ordered it again since in a bob. I don't hesitate to go out in them they are really lovely and I wouldn't go out/ to work etc if i didn't feel confident .

  • Hi again  I also used nioxin shampoo and conditioner to strengthen hair follicles as hair was coming back . Either by coincidence or by using nioxin my hair is back and as thick as ever .Needing cut every 4 weeks . Lost it Dec 2019 .first cut after first lockdown in July . It's not cheap but you don't use much and your daughter may be able to get it at warehouse I got it on Groupon .
