I'm having a lumpectomy next week and I'm not sure what type of bra to buy to wear afterwards. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome if it’s your first time here. Sorry you find yourself in the club no one would choose to join but hopefully you’ll find lots of support and shared experiences here. Re bras, I went to a local shop (pre Covid) and chose Royce front opening bras with poppers rather than a zip. They’re cotton and soft but also felt supportive. They’re also available online. I was advised to go up a bra size but keep the same cup and that worked for me. Others swear by Asda and M and S.
Do you know yet if you’ll have radiotherapy? If you do, then crop tops are good to have on standby in case the bras start to rub as mine did.
I’m sure others will soon pop in with advice, in the meantime keep posting and asking questions. Sending love and a big virtual hug, HFxx

I used Asda’s seamless pull on (or pull up) elasticated support bra I got a size up from usual and found them comfortable to wear after my lumpectomy and lymph node removal they’re reasonably priced too

Thank you - that's really helpful. It's such a hard time and so much information to take in - I'm feeling really overwhelmed right now.

I felt the same way at first and still do I had my surgery on the 4th November and 4 sessions in with radiotherapy sometimes you just want to shut the world out and scream and cry and you get so much information you think your head will explode my Macmillan support worker gave me some good advice and it was to take everything 1 day at a time if you want to cry have a cry also she told me to take each stage of treatment at a time and only concentrate on that thinking about future treatments if needed can make everything more overwhelming sending you lots of love xx

  • Hi 4RR

I've bought asda front fastening post surgery bras. I'm due to have mastectomy and front fastening was recommended for either surgery I decided I was going to opt for xx

Thank you - that's all really helpful. I'm also going through a really hard divorce at the moment too and my husband is still at home. Fortunately I have 2 amazing children 17 and 19 who are very supportive. I know I will get through this but it's very hard.
