Lower back/pelvic pain - early in 2nd chemo cycle

Hi, newbie here.

My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer - marginally into stage 3 territory - in late July and had her second cycle of chemo last Thursday.

She has just today started to get some pain in her lower back, pelvis and upper thighs. She equates it to the pain she had late in each of her pregnancies (she was a front carrier!).

Has anyone any experience of pain like this during/following chemo?

My wife had an MRI 5 weeks ago which thankfully showed nothing of any concern anywhere other than the original lump, so I'm hopeful.thos pain is a chemo side effect rather than anything more sinister.

Thanks in advance!

Nsil

    Hi,

Has your wife had white blood cell stimulating injections along side the chemo? If so it is that showing it's doing it's job.

Yes, Yvie, she is having the injections. Many thanks for the reply. And yes, she says it's not nice!

  • Hi @fazza1970 I agree with that this sounds exactly like the pain I had over the course of the filgrastim (white blood cell injections) which I had for 5 days at the start of each chemo cycle. It seemed to get worse for me over the 5 days and then ease off when the injections were finished. I hope everything goes well for your wife and this pain eases off after the injections. If she is still worried at all, you could call the oncology helpline for advice.

  • Hi

Lots of people - me included-  found Clarityn/Loratidine and Paracetomol and /or Nurofen ( after taking temperature) worked for this awful pain .Should find plenty of references in the breast cancer site as this is where I found the information .
    Best wishes

I am just after my first chemo and the Neulasta injections definitely give aches and pains in my bones! I find Neurofen is ok (after checking my temp obv) but am getting something a bit stronger for night time for my next injection. My team were very happy to prescribe something.

i also found a gentle walk and a nice Epsom salt bath was comforting but didn’t really get rid of the pain. Give my wife your best and I hope you’re doing ok too. You’re very sweet coming on here on her behalf - that’s really touching. I’d be lost only for my husband too xx
