Hi Again - is Anastrazole the same as Letrazole joint with joint pain? I have had osteoarthritis for around 25 years and take painkillers only when the pain is too hard to bear. I have been on the aromatose inhibitor for just over a year now. Lots of joint pains and particularly jaw pain so just wondering if all are the same. My GP when I saw her said you have to take Anastrazole it will keep the cancer away!
Hi Tinkers60 welcome to the forum. Anastrozole and Letrozole belong to the same group of drugs called Aromatase Inhibitors. When these are prescribed what they do is shut of the production of Oestrogen when our tumours have been Oestrogen receptive meaning that they like the Oestrogen and what Doctors want to do is cut off this liking and stop us producing Oestrogen. By doing that with these drugs they stop the tumour from getting any Oestrogen and are therefore preventative.
However, they can and do have their side effects and some people can tolerate these and some people can't. The joint pain you describe Is I would suggest one of the symptoms experienced by 100% of those on these types of drugs.
Hope at least some of that is helpful.
