Hi,

I was due to get my biopsy results tomorrow but had a call from the breast clinic today saying I need another biopsy with a larger sample as my results were inconclusive.

i had a cluster of microcalcification found during early mammogram screening(I’m 40 and seen under the family history clinic)

the nurse I spoke to said she couldn’t really tell me much other than the sample needs to be bigger and the only thing showing up is dysplasia? Not sure what that means?

Anyone else had to go back for another core biopsy?

Hi GEMRC17 welcome to the forum.

My friend had the same as you and had to go back for another biopsy as there were not enough cells to be clear about what it is that was showing and what this meant for her.

As it was she went back for the second biopsy and they got enough cells to say that they were  not concerned at this time. However, she will continue to have mammograms per schedule for screening, but given your family history and your age you need to be asking how you will be monitored. Dysplasia is a name given to cells that are suspicious but not Cancer but can be a precursor to Cancer if that makes sense hence the ongoing screening to keep and eye on things.  My friend didn't have surgery and was assured that she may never need that but to keep and eye on breast checks and report any changes.

Sorry to not have more info  for you but hopefully some of what I have said may put your mind at rest. xxxx

Thank you so much for replying. I suppose it is more the frustration of having to wait another couple of weeks for a definitive answer. That’s great to know that your friend had a normal result after the two biopsies, I am staying positive and hoping for similar.
