I have just been diagnosed with Breast cancer...decided on a Mastectomy with auxiliary clearance. Having op 24 th August.. Results 9th September...I am hoping to go to Portugal 3 weeks after my op to have a fortnights rest bite ,staying with a dear friend.. Will this be possible ?? I've refused chemo or radiation for now...see what the body scan shows after surgery.. Anyone just had surgery ???
Hi there and welcome to the forum:)
Both grade 3 and nodal involvement would mean chemo usually. Have they discussed this with you? I had grade 1-2, 1 node positive and a 2.7cm ER+ tumour and had it. I dodged radiotherapy as it was 'clear margins, no LVI, grade 1-2 and in 1 node, not 3 or more', so you would likely have it recommended as well, though could have a chat about that later.
There is a window of opportunity' for starting all these things, but you'd still be inside that even with a holiday. Personally I'd wait though (or book something which can be changed) as they may want you to have further scans, and if you had a seroma or other issues you'd want to be near the hospital. I found the mastectomy surgery strangely fine, but the level 3 clearance I had later after one node came back positive was more of a (literal) pain.
Good luck!
Hi CosmicDancer,
I had double mastectomy and full node clearance Feb 19th went to Tenerife 30th March prior to chemo and rads. It was already booked the previous year and touch and go whether I had to cancel it. So glad I did but it really depends on how you are and how your healing. I also took away with me some anti-biotics just in case I got bit by mosquito’s. If the holiday had not already been booked I would have given my body a bit longer to recover.
Best of luck

Hello
I had grade 3 her2 positive breast cancer and I had chemo first. Then surgery. I had 1 node involved at the start of my treatment. See what they say after surgery but personally I would say chemo is a must for grade 3 breast cancers.
Enjoy your holiday and deal with it after.
Good luck

To go back and have another surgery would be a pain.( Node .Iclearance after) I have a big meeting on 9th September with results...I will know more then....They offered me chemo first ...not into it myself...I have M.E so my immune system is dodgy anyhow...So I refused...See what surgery finds...
Yep big day 9th September where I will get results.. Not into chemo..i refused it before surgery...I think surgery is enuf for me for now...I've asked for a body scan after...My BC is not hormone related...Did u have any side effects with chemo??
Hi,
I was grade 1 & 2 so had 4x fec and 4x doc then 1 month of rads. I just did what I felt was ok during chemo, steroids put me on a high prior and after each chemo with daily injections for five days. Rads was tiring as it was only a 15 min treatment but transport to and from made it anything from 6-8 hour day. But then my dangling carrot was my husband took me to the seaside every month staying in a hotel which even when I felt rough boosted me up no end. Out of all this journey which was a year I learnt not to google anything I was about to venture and deal with it as it cane.
Positive Mental Attitude, write a daily task list to do and if you dont do it put it on the next day.
keep well Your truly not alone !

Are you triple negative then or HER2+? Have you run your stats through Breast Predict?
That is such a good idea LondonMumof2. When you look at the odds and see how surgery alone only gives a 50 percent 5 year survival it’s a no brainer.I have grade 3 HER2 positive ER positive with an axillary node so I am going for everything offered and the kitchen sink and that puts me up to 93 percent Survival. The oncologist can go through this if it’s too scary.
CosmicDancer One benefit I have found with chemo is that all my chronic autoimmune joint pain and arthritis has vanished with the general reset to my immune system and the steroids. It may not last apparently but I have much less pain than usual. Bonus! So the ME might actually be benefitted by treatment bizarrely.
Don’t be too quick to dismiss treatment just because it’s unpleasant. Breast cancer is an all system disease not just confined to the breasts.
Hello
Yes I had 3 fec and 3 docetaxel with herceptin and perjeta. I managed the chemo. I would never have considered not to have it. They will look after you.
