Hi my partner is hopefully starting chemo soon saw consultant on Monday he said the chemo nurse will call soon. Firstly how long does she wait for this call and secondly do you need a pneumonia jab as the consultant didn't seem too bothered about it. Thanks 2.38am both sat worrying it's now been 40 days since first op and we have no idea about time frames.

Instincts tell you that treatment should start quickly,  but the body needs to heal first and at the moment things are all over the place. I had my surgery on 12 August and started chemo on 20 October. Pneumonia jabs are only offered to the over 70s so don't stress about that. Every hospital has it's own timescales. If you are worried,  dont wait for a nurse to call you, call the breast unit, its what it's there for

Thanks, my partner contacted her GP and is booked in to have a pneumonia jab next week. A breast care nurse has called to say the oncology nurse usually calls within 7 days of seeing the oncologist and soon after this chemo starts so hopefully things will start moving rapidly soon, if not we are planning to call back on Friday as we are almost at 6 weeks already since her first op. Its all so new, we're desperately trying to educate ourselves whilst coming to terms with it - but of course it could be worse, thanks again.

Make use of this website and/or the leaflets your nurse will have given you. Remember there is always someone on the forum who's already been there. PLEASE DO NOT USE DR GOOGLE. It doesn't help.

    Good luck

I like to update for anyone reading these questions/messages in the future - it took ten days from my partner seeing the oncologist to starting her chemo, the chemo nurse called approx. 3 days after the oncologist meeting to organise a look around the unit and book her in for her first session. The pneumonia jab (none live) is ideally carried out two weeks before chemo but we are looking into administrating during or after chemo. as another option. Thanks for all the help and replies.
