Hello
Can anyone help as to what npi <3.4 means please?
Julie x
Hi, just done a quick google and it’s a prognosis tool. Up to 3.3 is good up to 88% 5 yr survival, 3.4 to 5.3 is moderate up to 69%. Mines 4.4.
however I think that it is from surgery only and doesn’t take chemo, rads and hormone therapy into account like the predict tool does.
I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon, but hope it helps
The NPI stands for Nottingham Prognostic Index and is an ancient version (mid 80's) of much newer prognosis tools like Oncotype and NHS Predict.
I'm surprised they still actually use this as it pre-dates a whole raft of newer treatment types which are probably not taken into consideration - like chemo, targeted therapies etc
If you Google NPI you could find out what the <3.4 means but I would prefer a score from something like the NHS Predict Tool rather than this dinosaur.
Hope this is of some help Julie, take care, G n' J
