Hi, just wondering how soon after finishing chemo can I start eating things like pate, prawns, runny eggs etc... All the foods I was told to avoid whilst on treatment?

I have my last chemo session next week, whilst I still have an operation, radiotherapy and Herceptin treatment to go I was only advised not to eat certain foods during chemotherapy... Does this rule extend to my other treatment?

How soon can I have pate on toast, prawn sandwich and a dippy egg with soldiers!?!

I've craved all these things for months!

Hi    Congrats on almost crawling under the last hurdle...

Depends on the type of chemo drug - Some wipe out more white cells than others.

Although your lowered white cell count should start recovering well by week 3 most have been told to wait at least 4 weeks after your last chemo session, but don't overdo it and pig out on all the no-no's at once Hugging

I don't think you need to be so cautious on Herceptin, but to be sure ask your oncology unit for clarity.

Hope this is of some help, G n' J

  • I wasn’t told to avoid anything during my chemo (ec & t,) so I didn’t!

I ate everything you’ve listed, at home at restaurants, street food etc all thru treatment.

However if you’ve been told not to I’d ask your oncologist or bcn if you have one to make sure

I was told "eat as if you are pregnant ". But I refused to give up my sippy eggs. I did avoid takeaways though.  We went to france very soon after finishing treatment and I wanted mussels,  but our favourite restaurant had changed hands so I had oysters instead.

    Hello All,

ive just had my last GSF injection, my final session of chemo was in 7/7.

i didn’t think I would have been able to get to the end but I did, there were so many times I wanted to , I start radiotherapy in 29/7 so the end is in sight.

Thank you all for your support it’s been amazing.

    stay safe
