Hi all,

I have just joined this group today due to current investigations in to breast cancer. I suppose I’m looking for any advice/similar stories.

I found a lump in my right breast and was referred to the breast clinic by my GP. I went to the appointment and the consultant confirmed it felt like a benign lump. I had mammograms and ultrasound followed by fine needle aspiration on a lump I didn’t know I had in my left breast.

i was told that I had a few cysts in my right breast and 3 in the left. They said they sent a sample off and everything should be fine.

i received a call to say that I had a benign fibroadenoma in the left breast but that at MDT they had noticed an area of micro calcifications also in the left breast that needed looking in to further but all should be fine.

I then had a stereotactic image guided biopsy which removed some of the area and had a marker clip placed.

i received a phone call to say that they found some atypical cells and that they needed a bigger sample.

i have just had a vacuum assisted biopsy which removed a larger sample which is currently with the lab and have been given an appointment to discuss results 26th June.

after the procedure I was taken upstairs to a room where I met a Macmillan nurse who gave me her card and said there could be one of 3 outcomes. 1 - benign, 2 - indeterminate and will need more investigation or 3 - breast cancer. She then went on to ask me my home set up, children’s names, ages, where I work, am I full time, current medications And any allergies.

This last part has made me believe they pretty much know that I do have cancer and is doing my head in slightly.

Just looking for people to talk to about this, thoughts and feelings. Honest truths not ones to make me feel better etc

Thanks for taking the time to read my post xxx

  • It is hard not to jump ahead I was the same.  I wanted to know all the scenarios!  My story is in my profile. LCIS is not invasive, but I had an MRI scan and they found 3 areas of concern. It was my choice to have a mastectomy even though only one area turned out in the end to have a small lobular breast cancer. I work full time and as a single mum there is only one income which was a huge concern for me. That also was a factor in my choice of treatment. I was off work 7 weeks but I did not back to work too soon physically I was well but mentally I needed more time to get my head round things. But everybody’s journey is different and as people we are all different. But we all surprise ourselves how strong we can be xx

Hello I just wanted to say that I agree with everyone here in that just because the nurse took all those details from you and gave you her card, doesn't mean that you definitely have breast cancer at all.  In my experience of having benign cysts before and now being diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2020, they always cover all eventualities in preparation.  Also my sister in 9 years in recovery from breast cancer and she explained to me that they can't tell at the very moment that they take the cells because they have to let the cells grow over a few days before they know the outcome.  I asked the staff member doing the biopsy if this was right and she said my sister had given great information there and that's exactly what they do.

Hang on in there and good luck at your follow up appointment.  I can empathise with the days in between waiting.  I've been there a few times in the past and my treatment got changed because of COVID-19.  Try and keep occupied and busy if you can - friends and family - even if you can only virtually communicate with them - are a great help.

Where I had the biopsy I have a large hard mass that has appeared at some point throughout the day.

Its none of the things they warned me about being urgent as in there’s no heat, increasing pain, oozing etc

its about 2 inches by 1 inch in size and it’s not at the incision site it’s more under and all around the nipple I believe this is where the sample came from.

Is this normal guys? Should I do anything?

    thank you x

Just wanted to add a follow on as I googled so much and found so many threads that just ended with no results

I had to attend an appointment to receive my results (something that concerns people)

I had the first appointment of the day (something that concerns people)

I had a Macmillan nurse (something that concerns people)

My results were good, no cancer.

5 years open access to the breast care centre and annual mammograms

I can get on with life now

For those whose results were not favourable i would like to wish you all the best for your treatment and thank everyone who has ever replied and helped
