It may seem odd, but I've never actually thought about this before. When the stats talk about x years survival, when do they start counting? Is it years from from diagnosis, or from surgery, or from the end of treatment?
Its on my mind now because I had my mastectomy 2 years ago tomorrow.
Hiya
Survival stats are usually taken from the diagnosis date, also used for your yearly review scans.
If the timescale is calculated by something like Predict you would think it would be after chemotherapy is completed; if you didn't have chemo it would be from the surgery date, but for some reason it isn't.
I can only assume because BC treatments are so varied and some long term like taking hormone therapy tablets treatment for 5 or 10 years the diagnosis date is the obvious choice ?
Tell you what is a bit 'Freaky' As I was typing this an email notification reply from you flashed up on my screen (re: Wales) ... Guess you are a Lark and not an Owl as well ?
Take care, G n' J
Good Luck with your Corvid Test, this doesn't look right
Can I join the lark patrol too?
My surgeon told me .....diagnosis date. Therefore five years.....very significant for Triple neg.......from Oct 2015 .....which will be coming up very soon. I was disappointed to miss my last rendezvous withmy surgeon during the confinement. His secretary said remake if I want but I have the next appointment with the oncologist in late June so I probably won't bother. As you see I am still having four monthly checks......it's been so reassuring.
Have a nice day. Sun out here.....And Wales?
Love Karen
I'm fascinated .....My maiden was O'Shea.....of Warerford origins. But the Vale of Glamorgan?.....
Is this chemo brain or is Glamorgan.... Welsh?
Hiya Karen / Lacomtekp
Looks lovely there too Karen...
The O'sheas probably originally came from Ireland where Waterford is.
Vale of Glamorgan is in Wales (bro morgannwg)
Sorry looks like your discussion has been subjected to a takeover :-/
I'm gonna repost this to the Awake thread
Hugs, G n' J
