Oncotype dx score results

Hi,

I received my oncotype results and my oncologist had to have a over the phone appointment (due to covid), so I had no paper work in front of me. I am soooo confused att the difference between the recurrence score (RS) and the distant recurrence score (DRS) at 9 years. I know what they are but do not get why some people who have 13 as a recurrence then show 12%  DRS at 8 yrs. Others may have a score that is 19 RS but the DRS is 7%. Can any one explain as I am so confused. I would have thought that if your recurrence score was low then your distant recurrence core would also be low and vice versa.

Anyone happy to shed some light on it for me? I would really appreciate it. Xx

  • Hi,

I can't answer your question but, on my report its based on 5 year risk of recurrence or death and with a Score of 9 is 9% risk with Tamoxifen only but with a CI: (Confidence Interval of 5-16%) and at 10 years my Risk of Distant recurrence is 6% CI:  4-9% after being on Tamoxifen, I'm actually on Femara but the Study's have been done on ladies taking Tamoxifen.  The SWOG study was one of them, Tailor X was another.

Hopefully, someone will come along to offer more information.  It is so difficult to understand and believe me I asked so much and emailed lots of questions to my Team.

    Best Wishes.

    Hi Jostar,

    My Oncotype score was 19.

My result was 9 year recurrence risk of 6% with Tamoxifen alone. My chemotherapy benefit was <1%
    My results were TaylorX

I am having Tamoxifen and monthly Zoladex injections.

The score is how your tumour is made up (like it’s dna and how it behaves/looks under the microscope and in tests). The recurrence score takes into account the tests plus the benefits of Tamoxifen.

That is how I understood it anyway. It was a stressful day and it is hard trying to take all of the information in.

What was your score? Have you decided on treatment?

    Claire x

  • HI CRBY,

It is interesting and quite confusing as I note your score was 19 and at 9 years you had 6% risk, my score was 9 and I had a 6% risk at 10 years, quite honestly I'm not sure I trust the OncoType DX test, what I didn't know before I agreed to it was they only send a small amount of the tumour, my tumour 4CM plus 0.5CM DCIS and only a fraction of it went to USA. From what I've learnt since a tumour can have different aspects to it, therefore for all I know some of the other areas of the tumour may not have been a score of 9.  Who knows!

  • Now that is interesting. Peter awake, did you have any gone to any part of the lymph nodes. The reason why I'm asking is because after searching for the answer to my question I realised that this test can be ordered for some people with mictomets in the lymph nodes. So where someone may have a score of 19 with 6% future rec.rate, someone with a lower score of 12 might but with lymph node involvement may have a higher future recurrence rate.

Either way, these are predictive tests and I guess not facts. I like to analyse everything, that's the issue with me.

  • Hi Jostar,

I had 2x micromets each 1mm. I also like to analyse, my Surgeon doesn't like it and has told me "done over analyse this" he means the whole breast cancer thing including treatment as I have driven him almost mad with questions, I think!!

    Hi,

I didn’t have any node involvement at all.
The tumour t being fully tested bothers me greatly. My closest friend died of a brain tumour due to this very thing.
I research everything too and always have loads of questions. I do know the nodes were completely tested.
