I'm confused
Hello...Welcome.....I'm assuming you have only just heard you have to have a mastectomy . It is such a shock when you get results that no wonder you feel confused. I didn't have a mastectomy as my lump was small and in a good position for a lumpectomy but lots of ladies who write regularly on here have had and I'm sure they'll be with you soon with helpful advice.
However, for anyone getting a cancer diagnosis it takes a while to sink in. Often one panicks and thinks the worst possible scenarios when actually today treatment is so improved that sucessful recovery is very common. My own cancer was nearly five years ago. But for now.....your response is quite normal. Most people who post will agree that at the start they felt confused particularly by the jargon, numb by the results, fear of the total unknown. Once your treatment plan has started you will feel more in control.
If you feel you are able ....perhaps you can add a few more details so advice can be even more specific. For example....do you have a date for the mastectomy.?....do you have an analysis for the cancer?......or perhaps you would like to know exactly what happens. ?You may have been offered reconstruction at the same time and want to ask about that? If you can form some of your thoughts into questions, we can be far more helpful at unravelling the confusion.
There is one thing to remember.....in this group the only silly question is the one you don't ask. Also you can be angry, you can cry, you can shout or just express your feelings and someone will always listen.
If you're worried at night and don't want to start a new thread....try Awake. If nothing else the people there will probably make you laugh between the more serious moments.
So I hope the mastectomy goes well....I'm sure you will shortly have lots of information and feel a little less confused.
Love Karen

Hi
I had a mastectomy 12 weeks ago. Totally shocked at diagnosis as had no symptoms.had my usual 3 yearly mammogram before xmas, follow up mammograms and biopsies. I couldn't believe this was happening to me. Please know you are not alone . I am available to answer any questions you need answered.
I found this site invaluable after my diagnosis and the ladies are compassionate, supportive and give great advice.
Take care.

Hi ,
and another welcome to this incredibly supportive group though sorry you needed to find it.
its quite true that there’s no question too daft, we’ve all been there or nearly so, so there’s a wealth of experience here.
I’ve been on the site for a long time as our daughter had a very obstinate blood cancer, and then in 2018 I found a lump that led to my mastectomy in the April. I’m fine but I do hang around as the site has been amazingly friendly, and I’m not quite finished with treatment as I’m on oestrogen lowering drugs, so don’t feel quite ready to leave yet.

Hi
Your diagnosis has been a shock, just take one day at a time. Once you have had your scan and seen your doctor things will become clearer and all your questions will be answered. It can be a very stressful time await for results but we have all been there so we know exactly how you are feeling. Good luck and keep in touch
