Welcome to the June BC Chemotherapy Discussion.
Looks like summer has finally arrived - All we need now are a few Swifts & Swallows.
This thread is for all of you good folks going through chemotherapy to browse through, ask questions, answer questions and be there for each other in a way only you all know how.
If you want to find this post quickly, you can hit the 'Save In My Favourites' button - See discussion tools box on the right >
If you need any extra tips, our Chemo Tips Page is something you may find very helpful, and if you find a tip which helped you just reply to share with others who are also going through chemo. One top tip, ask about parking at the hospital where you are being treated; for some Cancer patients parking is either free or heavily discounted - So it's worth asking about.
Macmillan produce this Healthy Eating booklet if you have any diet concerns MAC13612_Healthyeating.pdf
If you need to refer back a month here is a link to The May Discussion which will be being locked to replies soon.
Remember, you're never alone, you have us! while going through this tough part of your runaway mine cart ride.
Don't forget all cancer patients are entitled to a 5 Year Prescription Fee Exemption Card from your GP for meds to help with any side effects.
Fingers crossed for minimal side effects and maximum impact, G n' J
Great to hear how you're getting on. I guess I'm a few weeks behind you.
After reading other posts on here I'm planning to ask for the cold cap. I got a bit twisted about hair loss then gave myself a pep talk. If you have to have your leg chopped off to save your life that's it for good- it wont grow back- but hair can!
With the hot flushes I'm getting from the letrozole, the idea of an ice bucket sounds good LOL
Hi
definately worth giving the cold cap a go especially to help with the hot flushes !! . Early days for me but I am hopeful it will help limiting hair loss.
Good luck

Hello everyone, I've finished my chemo now and am recovering, but thought I'd let you new ones know that you get used to loosing your hair quite quickly. My hair was waist length beforehand and it took me ages to get it to grow that long, but it started coming out after my second FEC and I had it cut down as short as the hairdresser could go, so it wasn't so bad when the rest fell out, didn't notice it really by then. Later, I just went with it and didn't worry about being seen bald after answering the door to the postman and forgetting to pop a beanie on first, since it irritated my scalp a bit! After that, I couldn't be worried about what others thought. Take me as I am! I had too much to worry about that was far more important than what people thought of my appearance. I was really sick from FEC, then Docataxel was worse, believe it or not. I got peripheral neuropathy badly in fingers and toes, so my last treatment was cancelled, loss of taste so food was nasty, nose constantly running, even now months afterwards, but if we survive cancer, this is the price we have to pay, so take heart all of you and good luck for the minimum of side effects. Get Evonail for toes and fingernails, it will, preserve them, otherwise they split, splinter and you can even lose them later on, so take all the advice on here that you can. Stay safe and good luck to everyone, I hope you all have a good weekend.
Hi, I've been looking for evonail for weeks now does anyone know where to get it from?

Hi Audrey, how you doing? I cant help you about evonail but I'm using Sally Hansen vitamin E nail and cuticle oil I had off Amazon it seems to be working.
Hi Deb I'm doing ok just mild SE but I'm doing as much preventive measures as I can. I'm using nail cream and painting nails black b4 chemo taking anti sickness for 4 days after drinking as much water as I can ( about 2-3 litres) hand it seems to be working for me.
How are you doing this cycle?
Audrey xx
Congratulations on completing your chemotherapy.

I get my second chemo next Friday and totally dreading it as my first one was frighting,so far I’ve still got my short hair but no doubt by the weekend will see it start to fall out.
I just hope with this session they give me the strongest anti sickness stuff.
stay safe
hugs

Hi , what anti emetics did you get last time? I was high risk for nausea etc as had hyperemesis in pregnancy, travel sick, etc. I had aprepitant, ondansatron and maxalon first cycle but still spent 1st night throwing up. 2and cycle they gave me lorazepam to take night before and after which seemed to help even though it's a sedative. Still nausea but controlled as long as I took everything religiously. Lots of people seem to find the first cycle the worst, maybe other times your body recognised it so it's not such a shock? Good luck xxx
Hi Audrey68 - I think. Evonail is no longer available and company may have closed down . I went for Polybalm that has had a UK trial.Expensive - £39.50 for hands and feet 2 pack and took a while to arrive but working for me . Polybalm.com
All the best
Jackie
