Hi. It a while since I posted on here but I am hoping that someone might have the same as me and help me solve my problem. I had a mastectomy four and a half years ago after chemo then Rads. I have nerve damage in my chest area and upper arm. The problem that I am having is it is really painful where my bra strap presses on my chest and my prosthetic breast digs in that area as well . I have tried different bras and different prosthetics but still having problems.. Any help appreciated. Thanks. XX
Hi kazash56,
I have the same problem its 15 months since my double mastectomy and out of all The bras I have bought from various shops Iam still not feeling comfortable even the bra from hospital when I was fitted with prosthesis. He only one I can currently tolerate is the sports type gra from the BCN prior to operation. But what I have been advised to do is to go to M& S they're a free fitting service and are very good so once lockdown has eased I will be giving them ago.
I wish you well and hope you find comfort soon

Hi. I have tried all sorts of bras and the ones I am wearing at the moment are from .M&S. They are like a sports bra style, I love the style of them because the neck line comes quite high up and covers any scars( I have quite a large dent on my upper chest area) but it still presses on my tender bits. Will keep looking, I'm sure there will be something out there. Good luck with you search. Xx.
I was tender for months after my mastectomy, and could only wear a softie or knitted knocker. Thr problem with no real weight was that lopsided look. I've a wide ribcage and found most sports bras which were good in the chest area were too tight, or if they fired my chest were too big on thr boobs. I'm bout a big Asda George fan, but their copy of the post surgery bras are a bit like sports bras and they hold the softie/KK in place. I don't think they're selling clothing at the minute, but they're a bargain at £16 for a black and a white one (2 bras).
Is the nerve damage from the radiotherapy?
Hi,
I had a mastectomy, it will be 2 years at the end of July. I have developed pain in the mastectomy area which my Consultant has advised is damage due to the Surgery and Radiotherapy, I also get pain down my arm on the same side, I don't wear a Bra at home but when I do I wear M&S Post Surgery Bras which are soft and really comfortable and not wired. I don't wear a prosthesis, I am small breasted and the Bra I wear looks fine without, the prosthesis they supplied me with post surgery was too big and looked silly!
Really sorry to hear you're in so much pain. I'd also recommend the George at Asda post-op bras as being comfortable with a good fit. I didn't think much of marks and Spencers at all their range just seemed terribly limited and I went in not long after my op and left in tears (of frustration but was probably feeling a bit emotional anyway)
Is it worth contacting your Dr and seeing if you can get a referral to help with this? I'm not sure for what but maybe a physio or something ? Some massage or exercises might help if its something like scar tissue? It would be great to have some help with so much pain / discomfort.
You might like to ask about getting vit B checked , it helped my peripheral neuropathy
best wishes
Thanks very much for that I will. Got to go for a blood test soon to check my liver with being on Pregablin,

I have a painful spot right where you describe, just under and to the side where the bra elastic sits. I've had a nuclear bone scan, no rib issues. My surgeon felt it was scar tissue from surgery compressing the nerves. I'm on 10mg amitryptilene which helps, but doesn't completely take the pain away.
As I'm an AA cup but 36/38 around the ribs, I have the same issues finding something that fits. I normally wear a crop top but haven't bothered since being furloughed.
Hugs xx
Karen
Hi I take daily Vit B and Magnesium tablets for osteoporosis so hopefully that should be ok x
