Hi,
Daily Telegraph have an article regarding benefits of exercise for high risk breast cancers. Cancer Centre in New York state "30 minutes of regular physical exercise can boost the chances of surviving these BC's by 70 per cent according to research". "Exercise can also slash the risk of a tumour returning by more than half". It states walking, swimming, cycling or yoga. "The findings are based on 1,607 women in the US whose BC's had already spread to the lymph nodes or whose primary tumour was large".
Wowwwwww peterawake,
I have just found your post. This makes interesting reading, I am going to have a google for the Daily Telegraph article.
The way you have worded this - really does push me to want to do 'some' exercise. I was walking, this all stopped with lockdown and there it has stayed and on has come the weight - I'm not happy with myself. Reading your post might just give me that push 'Thank You' xxxx
Exactly the same here WhatHappened and also the letrozole has kicked in and my knees are suffering but this has given me the kick up the bahookie I’ve been needing! Thanks for highlighting the post!! x
As you know, like you, my knees are the main 'beneficiary' of letrozole side effects and I do find that exercise does help make the pain/stiffness better. Good luck with your bahookie kicking!
Yes, I also find that exercise helps ‘unstiffen’ me, even if I’m a bit stiff afterwards. Good mentally too. Try to do a long walk, about an hour, most days. I got pull on knee supports, even thoughhey make my legs look like burst sausages!
Linda x
Patience and faith
I found a different summary of the study at https://www.cancer.gov/news-events/cancer-currents-blog/2020/breast-cancer-survival-exercise that said, 'The guidelines recommend that adults engage in at least 2.5 to 5 hours of moderate-intensity physical activity or 1.25 to 2.5 hours of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity per week.'
So then I looked up the original guidelines at https://www.hhs.gov/fitness/be-active/physical-activity-guidelines-for-americans/index.html, and while they'd like people to do 30 mins aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercise 5 days a week (plus balance training for older people), I like that they begin with 'Some physical activity is better than none. Adults who sit less and do any amount of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity gain some health benefits.'
