I have had surgery for stage one breast cancer DCIS

It says that the benefits are not clear but some evidence says it reduces the risk of the cancer returning

I am worried of the side effects of the drug tamoxifen as I already suffer from migraines which bring on sickness I take propranolol for and I have anxiety of which I take fluoxitine for who I have to change as it dosent agree with tamoxifen

My question is should I take it or not I have to have radio therapy which has its own side effects

This has all happend within a month and I think I am realising how over whelming it is even though I know I am very lucky

Hope all this makes sense

  • Hi

Great that you are reaching out to us all rather than coping with worries alone. Like you, I had worries about tamoxifen as I have suffered with migraines since I was a child. It was a nightmare. After talking with my Consultant I decided to take it and see. I certainly haven't had any increase in migraines. I know everyone is different though. I wanted to try because of the drugs benefits in reducing return of cancer. Whatever you decide we will all be here for you

    Hi,

I have been taking Tamoxifen and Zoladex for 3 weeks now. I have also suffered from Migraines for the last 30 years. Since starting the medication I have had 2 quite bad migraines with aura and although wasn’t sick felt very nauseous. I am going to mention it to my consultant the next time but I was hoping it settles down as taking the medication reduces the risk of return by a large percentage.

I should also have said I take Sertraline for anxiety too. I know Fluoxetine isn’t advisable but having took both of those drugs Sertraline is good for side effects.
