2 x surgeries done, now onto radiotherapy, I know radiotherapy doesnt make me imniosuppressed , but should i still self isolate? If youre at the same stage as me , are you going shopping ?
Take care night night

Hi boober, Congratulations on getting through your 2 surgeries. Pleased to hear you are on to the next step! I’m not in the same position as you, but wanted to answer by saying! I think it would be sensible to avoid public places while you are going through your Radiotherapy! Not because of your immune system but more practically. IF you were to contract the Covid-19 virus, I’m guessing your treatment would be stopped until you were over it? Therefore delaying things!
So if I were you I would get your food delivered for the next few weeks, if you are able. Or if you have to go to a supermarket I would try and go to one of the quieter ones at their quietest time and definitely wear a mask and gloves!
Take care and Wishing you all the best with your Radiotherapy! Sal xxxx
Hi I am about to start Radiotherapy on the 4th June .I agree with above .
You are protecting yourself against delay but also the other service users and staff.
I agree masks but not gloves .It is no different to your hands ,unless you change between every touch /contact .Also you have to be careful when you remove both gloves and masks. If not done correctly you contaminate yourself .
Thanks Sal , your right , I think I just needed someone to tell me that! My husband has been freloughed so is doing all the shopping, but after 9 weeks of not going into town a wee wander round tesco was tempting, I 'll have plenty of t to do that later
Thanks again Sal, take care Christine xx
Hi ClaireRus, yep defiantly what I 'll do! Good luck with your radiotherapy, I 've been offered the fast forward treatment of just 5 treatments over 1 week instead of everyday for 3 weeks, trials state it's just as effective, how long is yours ?
Take care look after yourself and good luck! xxxxx
Wow boober, how things change! Back when I had Radiotherapy it was 25 sessions plus an extra 5 boosts to the area the original lump was! This was in 2014! I recall at the time other ladies were having just 3 weeks of treatment and yes I was very jealous, especially as I was trying to fit things around working as a Full time Nanny!
It’s great to hear that things are changing for the better! I’m sure it’s better machines which are able to give higher doses in one go, therefore less visits are required! Breast Cancer treatment really is changing from one year to the next!
Good Luck with your treatment Hun. Sal xxxx
wishing you all the best with your treatment too! Hope all goes well. Xxx
Hi boober I’ve had two sessions of radiotherapy and agree with everything LondonLass says, I started staying home before my op just in case I caught a cold so I’ve been isolating for around 12 weeks now!! Not going out anytime soon either as I really don’t want treatment stopped. x
Hi Yes fast forward 5sessions instead of 15 over 3weeks.
Same dose concentrated. If you look at the May Radiotherapy group there is a good chart that is positive.
Covid has ,I believe just brought this online quicker and will be the Gold standard.
To me it means treatment completed 2weeks earlier. ALSO 40 miles a day travelling saved.
Ask for R1and R2 prescription from GP. R1 is gel to use at tx time and R2 is for moisturising, Infomation on the May radio thread .
Stay safe x
